Possible Cleric Change.

You might reduce the higher-level spell list, but I would be very careful about eliminating whole levels of spells. Especially healing spells. If you limit spontaneous Cure stuff, you should very specifically NOT limit access to Cure stuff.

You could limit access to certain spells by giving them an alignment descriptor. For example, give harm the [Evil] descriptor, and it's off most PC cleric's lists. Give storm of vengence the [Chaotic] descriptor, and it's off 1/3 of PC cleric's lists.

Why? The way I'm thinking, at worst they still get sixth level heals. That covers, well, heal. Its regeneration and other such things after that, which arn't nearly so important, imho.

I deas I like and dont like:
No domain bonus spells.
Far too harsh. At least they should get those.

7,8,9th spells come only from domains.
I Liiiiiike this idea. Limits the spells they can look for. Even though it shortens the spell list like you WONT believe ((seriously, 2 spells? that would drive anyone mad)) if you put in the ability to gain bonus domains as a class skill, it would tottaly rock! (Plus no more True ressurection! Ha! Eat that you bastards... wait,, what am I saying? I'm a cleric fanatic!!?!?! Nooooooooooooo))

spontaneous conversation spell levels 0-6 only to domain spells.
Ok.. this isn't so good. Why? becasue that would make them almost like sorcerors. there is a feat they CAN take to spontaneously cast domain spells from their list in the complete divine. and thats for one domain. Having two of tiem - even only up to level 6 - is kind of overpowering if you ask me. force them to take the feat.

only light armor prof.
Ok.. that is ridicously harsh. Light armour for something that is supposed to be a back up fighter? Even barbarians get medium armour at LEAST. Nope. I think that is far underpowered and at leat that should be changed. Plus by putting them in heavy armour, you can drop them in large quantiites of water and watch them suffer!

one more thing: When choosing your limitations on clerics (I still dont get why people think clerics are overpowered. And I still dont see why people haven't caught on that hacing them take ANY spell from ANY book to cast makes them even MORE overpowered than you might think - word of advice: Limit that and your cleric is nice and easy.) Remember the vast amount of new and improved clerical feats that came out with the new core books. Such as domain spontanety and Divine metamagic and whatever. They can make the difference.

Oh and one more thing: am I wrong in thinking that clerics should get a free item creation feat?

So if you don't have the healing domain, no spontaneous healing. What I don't want but think might happens is for this to cause for all PC clerics to have the healing domain, which would reduce difference in characters, which is the opposite of what I'm going for.
How about letting those without the Healing domain cast lesser stength version of the Cure spells; one's without adding the caster level. So a spont. Cure Serious only heals 3d8 instead of 3d8+lvl. That way every cleric can heal but those with the Healing domain are much better at it. Of course, everyone can prepare the full strength version if they wish.

3d8 averages 13 pts. versus 20 points for a 7th level caster with the Healing domain.

Hmmm...

The limit on spontaneous curing is a good idea. I think I'll do something a little bit different, though. Instead of just losing the + lvl (which never seems very big to me...), it goes to the next lowest spell.

DruggedDwarf -- I'm not so much trying to nerf clerics as changing the flavor a bit. In this campaign I'm thinking about, magic will be limited by species. And humans are the clerics, so I want it to feel even more versatile.

I'm thinking I'll have them start with one domain, then be able to pick up others as feats. Throw in that they only get light armor, and they start having to make choices.

Since that feels like a power downgrade so far, I may give them bonus feats that can be used on metamagick, item creation, combat feats (like armor), or a domain. One every five, like wizards. (and, imc, my orc sorcerers).

I'm going to start a new thread with all the changes I'm doing to all the classes.
