Post Apocalyptic Gaming

Well, you only waited two hours (in the middle of the night for some of us) before reposting. You might have gotten some feedback in the other thread.

PA was probably our second most common genre back in the 80s. There were so many good cinematic sources for it -- Mad Max and the horde of cheap knock-offs that followed, Red Dawn, The Day After, Dawn of the Dead. We played Morrow Project, Gamma World, and others, but used Aftermath almost exclusively after we got that.

I wouldn't visit any board with such a specific focus on a regular basis. At most some attention if I started a PA game again.

I'd bookmark and visit often.

Same here in PA RPG experiences. Good to see Aftermath mentioned, my favorite PA RPG after greatly simplyfiying the melee and primitive missile weapon rules. Still some of the best gun rules ever IMHO.

I'd hit it regularly, I suspect. But then, I already have credits for Gamma World and d20 Apocalypse, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. One of my current games is a PA setting as well, so I also have a real drive for more PA material currently.

I like it, but I just learned over the weekend that my fiance doesn't.

To answer the question though

So the question is simply this: (1) do you enjoy playing, reading, or watching games, books or movies in the post apocalyptic genre? (2) If I were to setup a messageboard dedicated mostly to post apocalyptic gaming, how many of you would be likely to join and visit regularly?

1) Enjoy the apocalyptic genre. I love fallout, wasteland, etc. Heck, I love the zombie flicks, but it really doesn't matter what caused the apocalypse. I mean my favorite apocalyptic movie is "The Day of the Triffids"...no zombies or nukes in that...
2) yes, but since my lover isn't interested in that genre I'll probably put it on the back burner for me...get my gaming fix via video games, movies, tv, books....

another book that you might enjoy (and possibly steal ideas from for a campaign) is There Will Be Dragons by John Ringo. Basically a hyper advanced year 4000 AD technology dependent civilization is plunged overnight into the iron age. Very similar to Dies the Fire except that people before the catastrophe were able genetically modify themselves into other lifeforms. some became merfolk, some dragons, etc, etc. the only problem is that those that changed are now stuck in their forms.

Extremely entertaining.

(1) do you enjoy playing, reading, or watching games, books or movies in the post apocalyptic genre?
Yes, specially because of the surprise factor (no apocalyptic book/movie/game is the same as the other, room for constant wonder)

(2) If I were to setup a messageboard dedicated mostly to post apocalyptic gaming, how many of you would be likely to join and visit regularly?
Join: yes
Visit regularly: difficult :)

Yes, love most things post-apocalyptic*.

But realistically, no, I wouldn't be using a PA-oriented message board much. I spend enough time here and on the Circvs and maintaining my cyberpunk stuff to go on to a PA site with any regularity.

*Need it to get there at the end of the world? Send it Post Apocalyptic!

((I've decide to start replying to threads without reading the previous supplies.))

Post apocalyptic gaming is actually a good opportunity... no TV, no Computer, play by daylight, imagining life that isn't trapped in a hellish nightmare...

Yeah, I gotta put some D&D books in my survival bunker....

I like it well enough, but it's not my main gaming love by any means.

I'm still thinking of running a Thundarr game at GenCon, even though francisca is going to too. I think there's enough post apocalyptic love to accomodate two Thundarr games without them stepping on each other's toes.
