May I also suggest the following soundtracks:

Arcanum
Transformers: The Movie (Unicron's theme ist really spooky and otherworldly - Illithid theme song?)
Interview with the Vampire
Lexx
Engel (Yes, there is a soundtrack to this RPG, by In the Nursery)
Fight Club
Warcraft III / World of Warcraft
Guild Wars
Corpse Bride
Dune
Children Of Dune
Hero
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Last Samurai (Excelent "Last Stand" stuff here)
Starship Troopers

I was going to add Braveheart, but I find the Soundtrack rather boring and repetitive when listened to seperatly from the film...

EDIT: You might want to check out some of the "Medievil Bands" that are popular in europe (germany in particular), for example Corvus Corax, Saltatio Mortis, Helium Vola, Qntal, Estampie. There are more, but I can't remember...

Mediæval Babes! They ...uh... rock!

They're not free, but I'm a big fan of certain movie soundtracks. While some, like Conan, are obvious, I've recently found myself making substantial use of Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Sleepy Hollow (for darker games).

Yeah me to, Pirates of the Caribbean, and believe it or not the Dungeons and Dragons soundtrack, sucky film, nice soundtrack, :)

Anything by Midnight Syndicate or Nox Arcanum
Silent Force by Within Tempation
Best Day Ever or The Voyage by Cast in Bronze
Black Aria by Danzig
Hellraiser Soundtrack
The Hours Soundtrack
Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack
Final Fantasy IV-XI Soundtracks
Star Wars Soundtracks
Lord of the Rings Soundtracks

The Batman Begins soundtrack has some good qualities to it, especially for a dungeon crawl, but those moments only last so long. There's a lot of slow points, so I'd suggest using any music program to cut out what you don't want and loop over the good stuff.

Chronicles of Narnia - also excellent. Especially the battle music.

Anything by Hans Zimmer is guaranteed to have very dramatic music.

Our group enjoys having music in the background. Our one group, we had a pair of Dwarven Battlerager Brothers, when they went into rage, they would play the Legion of Doom Entrance music (WWE version). Our groups favorites are:
  • Iron Maiden--Live After Death
  • Iron Maiden--Piece of Mind
  • Rhapsody--Anything
  • Saxon--Anything
  • Metallica--The Black Album

I have a Classical Music library of over 500 CDs worth of Classical and Contemporary music.

So, I have access to tons of stuff...

Most of it you've probably never heard of.

Penderecki
Kilar
Feeney

Are all great for dungeon crawls, and nasty, intense battles.

I also really like Philip Glass for when the PCs mull around a city.

I'm also fond of Baroque music for traveling music, or also city based music for when the action is light.

The Lord of the Rings soundtracks are also good.
