I'm an Ohio native and a Syracuse fan by virtue of growing up around there, but honesty compels me to note that the only I-A football team to finish in the top 5 every year since 2002 is USC.

Yeah! I grew up in Syracuse maself. Still keep tabs on the college hoops team now and again. :)

Lessee ... according to their website, they finished the 2006-2007 season at 24-11 with 10-6 in the Big East.

They went to the NIT tournament and lost to Clemson in the third round, it seems.

Meh. :\ Not bad, but not a great year.

Myself, I'm not sure if that's better or worse than the first-round NCAA upset loss that seems to have been the norm post-Carmelo and the 2003 NCAA title. Hopefully this year's highly-regarded recruiting class accomplishes more than the highly-regarded class that just graduated...

They weren't great this year. It's a lot of the same problems they always have - no bench, a lack of stamina and momentum, weak schedule. The real problem though is Syracuse coasting along thinking that their reputation is going to get them somewhere. I think a large part of this is Boeheim, and I was thrilled when they announced his successor... now he just need to retire. Anyway, I'm hoping that not getting into the NCAA tourney was enough of a wake-up call for them to get their act together.

Wooosh. That's the sound of all American football talk going over my head. I don't even know the rules! :p

Don't worry about it. It's the one major American sport that really hasn't caught on anywhere else (except Canada, and to a much lesser extent, Germany and Japan). The Latin Americans and Pacific Islanders play baseball. Europeans and South Americans play basketball.
