Posting email address -- bad idea?

Yeah, I pretty much trust GMail's spam filter to do all the heavy lifting for me. I have addresses linked to my gmail address that are used for public mailing lists which are easily crawled by the spammers and I still have very little spam that actually hits my inbox.

at this point, obfuscating your email address in an online post is not that clever. REGEX and other tools make short work of skimming a page for *@*.* format stuff as well as variants.

the people writing scripts to capture such are just as clever as you.

the better reason not to post your email is that you cannot control who will use it once you give it out.

If you are about to conduct business or conversation with Morrus, then PM your address to Morrus.

If you post it on the forum, then ANYBODY can start emailing you. Including somebody you've started a flamewar with.

And that highly unstable person (they must be if they disagreed with you and your persuasive arguments) will probably be motivated to spending time finding ways to grief you. The less he has on you, the less hassle he can inflict.

On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog. Best keep it that way.
