Potion of Reduce -- what's the use?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Potion of Reduce -- what's the use?

I can think of other uses for Extend--oh, never mind. :)

Yeah, I deliberately didn't go there.

The other obvious plan is to just apply the Reduce spell... selectively.

Would it be unbalancing to increase/reduce weapon damage by a die category because of enlarge/reduce? For example, an enlarged long sword would do d10 instead of d8.

No, it would be "shafted." :D

If you enlarge the greatsword from Large, 2d6 to Huge, 2d8, the fighter can't wield it! If you enlarge the longsword to Large, te fighter has to loose his shield (move-eq) and drop it (free) to use it! Plus, some (evil) DMs will rule that you're not proficient with ?Large longswords, even though you're proficient with greatswords, so you'd get a -4 penalty on top of that!

No, it's not a good idea.

He's not talking about changing the Size category of the weapon, 'cos Enlarge doesn't do that :)

And since the weapon scales with the person being enlarged, having him suddenly non-proficient wouldn't make sense.

But he just wants to know if a club that weighs 10lbs - though it hasn't gone up a size category, it weighs as much as a greatclub, since 50% size increase multiplies weight by 3.4 - should do more damage than a standard club weighing 3lbs.

It's a fair enough question, but game mechanics say "No".

Combat aside

Your human PC can use it to "Pass" as a Halfling or Gnome with the use of the disguise skill.

helps you Hide better

Get out of a tight spot such as a small tunnel etc.

Follow a critter into it's hole.

make the Queen really smile at the formal reception, those hoop skirts are so easy to hide in if your 3' tall.

Of course you could always do a Steve Martin and ask a buddy "You wanta get small ?"
