Actually the origin of the term Mary Sue comes from Star Trek fanfic in which the writer would create a character that outclasses everyone on the ship.

Am I the only one who dislikes the term "Mary Sue"? Really wish it would stop to appear in fun discussions like this one...

That raises a good question. Why doesn't Superman have telepathy. He can do every damn other thing.

Actually, the Golden Age Superman could super-hypnotize and comprehend languages instantly, so he probably did.

In short: is it possible to min-max yourself in RL? What would that look like?

My theory is that we'd get major athletes or supermodels, whose entire being is focused on their task: scoring points and taking good pictures.

If you apply CharOp builds to RL, you get Bernie Madoff, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Andre the Giant.

Because Bruce Lee was a fantastic fighter, teacher, and performer, people think you can be good at "martial arts" and become an excellent figher, teacher, and performer. But actually, other than being intelligent, self-confident, hard-working, and in very good shape, those skills have very little to do with each other. Bruce Lee is awesome, but he's an incredibly inefficient build. He's just very high level/points.

Most astronauts are ridiculous multiclass builds that only exist so they can enter the Astronaut Prestige Class at the earliest possible level.

We have the Martian Manhunter. All of Superman's powers at Superman's level, plus world-class telepathy, shapeshifting and being able to go intangible.
