quick queston if i fight a creature with a 200 hp total and beat it down to 100 can i still power word kill it? im not sure if its max hp or what it has left

It's based on it's current hit points, not it's maximum hit points.

So yes, you can power word kill it.

Would seem that it's the amount of HP the critter has at the moment it's affected.....
