Even if scientists can produce biofuel with the microbes found in the digestive system of pandas, they still need massive amounts of cellulose and lignin to begin with. From our trash? Heck, we have trouble separating what is recyclable from what is not.

I'm afraid the organic material will just come from grown vegetatio that can either feed people or be used to grow crops that are eatable. Why create another food crisis like the corn price inflation that affect Mexico a few years ago?

Reading the article, that's the whole point of this process. With these microbes, the edible parts of food crops can be harvested as food, while the inedible parts (corn husks, grain chaff, etc.) can be converted into biofuel. So rather than competing with food crops as conventional biofuel projects do, this one would synergise with them - a neat solution.

For sure, and they use express Pandas, high in protein low in fat...that stuff is really good for you.
