[PR BAD AXE GAMES] Heroes of High Favor: HALF-ORCS

Re: Paragon Question

In the descriptive text for the Paragon, it suggests you may want to stick with Fighter long enough to gain Weapon Specialization. In the requirements, though, it states Weapon Specialization in their diety's favored weapon is required.

The descriptive text at the start of each prestige class talks you through ways you can simulate the concept without actually applying the prestige class. In general terms, the Paragon is a fighter-paladin; if you really want to play the class to the hilt, turn the page and try the prestige class.

The pre-req for the Paragon is indeed Weapon Specialization. He is, after all, supposed to be the paragon of fighter-paladins; he would not be complete in his training without the keystone ability of fighters, specialization.

There's a couple of goofs in the book, but that isn't one of them...

Bringing up the rear as usual are Halflings and Gnomes, each stumbling over each other not to be the last release... They'll be seperate books, of course, in the same format as the rest.

Can we lobby to have the halfling book be named Heroes of High Favor: Pecks? :)

...Ahem. So... Don't you already have a copy of DWARVES from judging the ENnies? Or are you talking about getting your hands on HALF-ORCS? Off the top of my head I don't know what kind of coverage Osseum has up there. If you have trouble finding either of them up in Vancouver, just let me know.

No, I have a copy of the Dwarf book (My ENnies review copy) and they have it in at Imperial Hobbies as well, so I assume they will be getting the Half Orc book in as well.

HALF-ORCS is pretty funky, there is some really weird stuff in there-- partly due to the subject matter, partly due to a desire to see how far I can push things and keep the audience satisfied. But, there is a part of me that worries that fans of DWARVES aren't necessarily going to "get" HALF-ORCS. The two books both follow the Heroes of High Favor format, but in places I find them as different in tone as Dwarves are to Half-Orcs.

Well, I should hope they'll be different:) I'm not sure how wellI would recieve a book ostensibly about Half Orcs that went on about the Dour, Stolid Dispositions, their excellent craftsmanship and their huge ancient mountain fortresses:)

At the very least I hope that folks continue to "get" the format the way you and Psion did. You get it! You get it! Wheee!

Well, if It doesn't change I suspect I will find thae same strengths to the format that I did previously;)

So... to answer your question: Next up is ELVES, due for December. Osseum is forcing me to think a little farther out in advance now, so I am starting to pull together a lot of the ideas that have been floating around for some time now. I'm the first to admit I'm not a huge fan of elves, but their favored class is wizard, and having now adapted myself to arcane thinking, I'm finding it fits me well.[/quote

Nice

Wulf

Not lilely to buy either of those as Halflings and Gnomes see very little action in my game.

Good luck to you in your endeavors:)

Looking at the preview of HoHF: Half-Orcs has brings up two important questions: Will my local store get some copies, and will there be any left?

It looks really good for a number of reasons. The class looks pretty balanced - it seems powerful, but it's not out of line. It builds on the previous success of the line by combining two classes and providing a prestige class and skill/feat path for those who don't take it. Most importantly, it improves on earlier work by breaking out of the mold of the two classes: the poison and insanity focuses make it interesting and useful. Great job!

Oh, and I'll be placing an order for HoHF: Humans the instant I can. I'd really like to see how you deal with it...

Thanks!

Dwarves are best served by delivering the "comfortable and expected," as I mentioned in that book. Folks know what to expect from dwarves and to a great degree the PrC's in DWARVES reflected that.

With HALF-ORCS I took a lot more chances with the PrC's to deliver the unexpected. There are some truly savage and bizarre twists in the pages of this one. I can't wait to see what people think of the MOULDER, DIRE STALKER, WYRD... The animal cross-breeding rules, the savage craftsmanship, shoddy craftsmanship, tribes and totems.

I feel certain I'll take some heat for pushing the envelope on this one, but it has been and will always remain my goal to write for the players. If the hordes of half-orc players out there are brain-wired anything like I am, I should be seeing some happy folks.

Hey, how do I preorder this (while I still have money)? It doesn't look like the option is up on your site, yet.

We're not taking pre-orders thru the site. Selling DWARVES early was a one-time deal (on account of I wanted it to qualify for the ENnies...)

Half-Orcs will be available thru the website when the book hits general release. (October)

Well I finally figured out how to add the image so lo and behold, it's done!

Let me know if there's anything wrong with it eh?

Both this image and the one for Dwarves are correct (the file is correct) but the images are being skewed. You can tell they're getting stretched horizontally-- somewhere the image size is being forced, and it... shouldn't. :)

I have been trying to let you get up to speed before I make any comments... But as long as you're looking, the "blurb" got cut short for Half-Orcs... and I wouldn't mind seeing the correct copy on Dwarves either (currently the copy there is pulled from our initial press release announcing the company, not the product).

Thanks for the hard work...
