Are we talking modern world here? Cities, Microsoft, WotC? Or is it standard fantasy?

My guess it is a fantasy world- from the first post, the story, it may have been a modern world at one time- but it is a dark scarey world at the time if the campeign.

It seems to be a fantasy Men In Black to me- which is a pretty cool idea. I hope it works out for them.

You've hit the nail right smack dab on the head. I certainly like to think that the setting/idea/campaign has become much more than that, but that was exactly the thought that inspired this idea.

It's very much a fantasy setting--although most of the "standard" fantasy concepts like monsters and arcane magic are considered fairy tales and nonsense by most of the population. I've made a concerted effort to create the history of the setting in such a way that we can logically explain why most people don't believe in these things.

I'm glad to see the interest in the idea, and I think you'll all be quite satisfied with what we're doing. :)

Sounds intriguing, but a little too similar to Deadlands in flavour for me...I'd rather just play Deadlands- or am I looking at this all :):):):)-eyed (which would not be a first for me)...still, cool.

Hmmm. I can't address that directly since I'm (gasp! horror! shame!) not familiar with Deadlands except for what I've heard on forums like this.

I thought Deadlands was a Wild West game? Shadow Branch is a D&D setting (well, D20 fantasy setting, wink-wink, nudge-nudge ;)).

Still, if you can give me any specific questions or examples, I'll be more than happy to address them or answer them as best I can.

.PDF or Hardbook?

Forgive me, but I've just started venturing out of WotC products and into the light.

One aspect of Deadlands is, in a very general sense, these native american demons are attempting to raise the fear level (not awareness of magic or monsters- thats already well known) to the point where they can access the world.

There are a bunch of organizations that are trying to stop it, but none of them are very clear on whats going on.

I saw- don't worry about it. It may be a tad similar, but it sounds like you have enough differences- and no one has run with such an idea in fantasy (that I know of)

Ok, Deadlands runs with the basis that monsters and the supernatural gain power from fear- the more people fear them, the nastier they get. Their enemies such as the Texas Rangers, try to prtoect the populace by hiding the exisatence of the beasties from them...which only increases the fear and paranoia.
Shadow Branch sounds vaguely similar in fantasy terms to that setup, but still very cool.

Cool. It actually sounds quite interesting. But as you say, while it's thematically a bit similar, it's only to a slight extent.

(Actually, our whole thing about belief, while vital to the setting is--on a mechanical level--secondary. We'll be including a few rules about how local belief impacts the monsters, like I said above, but for the most part, the belief issue is society-wide more than anything else. In that aspect, the Men in Black allegory is pretty close; it's only a minor problem if one or two people find out, but it's when entire communities begin figuring stuff out that we've got a real disaster looming.)

And yeah, to my knowledge, it's never been done in fantasy. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it's received. :)

And Old_One, I hope I've addressed your point as well, and I'm glad the idea appeals to you despite (or because of?) the similarities.
