Actually, in play style it should pan out a lot like MIB for fantasy, but I suspect it's actually closer to CoC than to Deadlands. The baddies and nasty monsters definitely exist, but are not generally recognized by society, and most people live their day to day lives without being aware that such creatures even exist.
At least to me, when I played Deadlands, it seemed obvious enough that most people knew something strange was going on, especially with the wierd science and the ghost rock. Deadlands games really didn't try and stress the lack of supernatural elsewhere. It only tried to keep the worst of it restricted to uninhabited areas.
In CoC the beings exist, but in isolated areas, and their existance doesn't effect most of society. As well, people are ill equiped to understand those beings, let alone deal with them. Magic is not well known, or even believed to work, and monsters are things of legend, myth, and foolishness. In this manner I would say CoC comes closer to the Shadow Branch setting.
Either way, this is all new to a fantasy setting, and there is plenty of room for both slapstick and horror, and any shade inbetween.
Hey, Mouse, do you have anything against me reposting my 'ghost in the attic' solution, just for flavor? Or do you have something else you might want to tantalize us with?
