The Oath Brothers Announce First Product:
Romance of the Five Planets

May 29, 2002 (Roanoke, Virginia) -- Will Russell, Ed Allen, and Chris Reinhardt -- the Oath Brothers -- are pleased to announce the upcoming release of their first d20 System book, Romance of the Five Planets. Romance of the Five Planets is an exciting fantasy adaptation of the classic Chinese epic, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The book is fully compatable with the popular Dungeons & Dragons role-playing product line.

The highlights of the book include new races, classes, prestige classes, and spells. The contents of the book are ideal for play within the Five Planets campaign setting, or can easily be used in any campaign. Adaptations of the popular characters from Romance of the Three Kingdoms are also included. In addition, the book introduces an innovative new game mechanic called Quotable Tactics, in which characters can select new abilities inspired by quotes and scenes from the epic historical novel.

The book is scheduled for a limited release in late August, with a worldwide release in mid-September. Romance of the Five Planets will be a high-quality 8.25 x 11 softcover book with over 100 pages of excellent material. The retail price is expected to be between fifteen and twenty-five dollars. Okay, then; some basics:

1. This is a fantasy campaign, with one of our major goals being to retain the flavor of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms while taking some liberties with it in order to make it more interesting in terms of being a D&D setting.

2. Inter-planetary travel is accomplished through gateways that link between the planets; a map of the gateway layout looks a lot like a pentacle, though the links between adjacent planets are considered to be "lost." Each of the five planets also has one or more moons, linked to the respective mother planet by gateways similar to those between planets. Travelling via the gateways does take time, during which the travellers are suspended in the void of space.

3. The Romance of the Three Kigndoms is about a period of war that existed in China from approximately 180 AD to 255 AD, with the kingdoms of Shu, Wu, and Wei being the major contestants in the war. We've escalated the scope of the conflict significantly, but as in R3K, the acts of cunning and/or brave heroes shall count for much more than sheer troop numbers will.
