When playing, 1st person.

When dming, I'll speak in the 1st person for npcs but I refer to them in the 3rd person, prolly cause there are so many npcs and none of them is "all of me".

When DMing, it's always third person. When I play, it's almost always first person, except when I want to make the distinction between player and character exceedingly clear for some reason.

I like third person better. First person often encourages "vicarious" play -- that is, instead of thinking, "What would my character do in this situation?" one ends up thinking, "What would I do if I were in my character's situation?" Third person helps to distance a player from his character, and make it clear that it's the character's thoughts and motivations that are the question, and not so much the player's.

As a player: Always first person.

Edit: Well, when actually playing. I have to admit it wigs me out when people refer to their character in the first person when talking about him/her out of the game.
Same here.

I think I usually use 1st person when playing. But I play VERY rarely so that data may not be representative. And it depends on what I'm doing. If I'm talking ABOUT the character rather than describing what the character is doing, I'll use third person.

DMing is ALWAYS third person.

I find that I am more comfortable playing third-person.

Saying, "Grignr hits the goblin" makes me feel slightly less dorky than, "I hit the goblin".

I typically play in the first person unless i need to distinguish myself and my character as two distinct "people", such as when i know that the critter in the garbage is an otyugh but my PC doesn't have a clue.

Rarely do i go first person when DMing unless it is within a speach that the NPC is making.
