PrC Feat Prerequisites

Sephiroth no Miko

First Post
When trying to qualify for a PrC, can you take the PrC the same level as you gain a feat prerequisite (assuming, of course, you fulfill all other prereqs such as skill ranks or BAB)?

I don't think so, that's why it's called a Prerequisite. Though I can't find any exact text on how it works, as a DM I would rule that you'd need to have the feat already from a prev. lvl before you could take the PrC. Not at the same level that you get the feat. Again that's why it's a Prerequisite, Pre being the important part in my mind.

Thought I'm not 100% (91.9273% really) lets see what the masses say.

Well, look what the cat dragged in...

While this rule holds to feats, I think it should apply to Prestige Classes as well, given the analogous nature of D&D 3e.

From the PHB, page 77
A character can gain a feat at the same level at which he or she gains the prerequisite. For example, at 3rd level, Krusk, the half-orc barbarian, could spend 1 skill point on the ride skill (gaining his first rank in ride) and select the mounted combat feat at the same time.

Well, Mr. Magic Rub, a little harder on the shoulders please. Get bent.

See the PHB, pp.145-146. Choosing a feat is step 7 in the advancement process. The first step is choosing a class, hence you must have any prereqs you need before taking a prestige class.

Your computer's screen seems to be broken, in particular the G and B electron guns. Please fix this before teh Intarweb is b0rken by the loss of symmetry reversing the positron flux. ThaADVANCEnks!

No. You have to select your class level before you get your feats from that level (even if the feat comes from a character level).

Thus, you cannot gain a level in a prestige class in the same level that you gained the feat to qualify for it.

(According the Sean K Reynolds the list on page 145 of the PHB is the order in which you are supposed to apply your level up benefits.)

Thank you Hong & Caliban.

Get Bent, hum? No no I don't think I will. You might want to think about not rubbing (no pun intended) things in peoples faces unless you're sure about your rule, & even if you're sure you might not want to do such things. As it is RUDE!

Have a nice day Mr. (?) Gamecat :)
