[Prc]The Sisters of Surrea

Kilmore

First Post
Okay... I made a pretty thick one here. This is basically a feminist order of swordswomen that's pretty popular in my campaign. I finally got around to formulating them for 3rd. Ed.

All ideas are still cast in jello, and I would particularly appreciate any ideas for their "Surrean Special Traits".

Sorry about the link, but the class is several pages long... a lot of fluff, but hopefully tasty fluff. Yeah, I know the picture don't work.

Oh, and look up my gallery at

Ouch. No replies at all? That hurts guys. Perhaps I oughta chop through the prose and present a bare bones version on the messageboard?

So why do I want more than 3 levels of this? I mean, to possibly go up to d6 unarmed strike? Eh.. I like all the fluff, but the prc doesnt do it justice. Any particular reason they get reflex saves? I mean, thyre great fighters and all .... but so are fighters .... right.

Ok, so constructive criticism time. Add something at 5th, 7th, and 9th or 10th to make the class continually attractive (punny). Ask yourself why someone would choose to continue in the class rather than go back to fighter. And please, do something better with the unarmed strike, like maybe start it at d6 and let it advance to d8. Then it would be more impressive d3-d6-d8, instead of d3-d4-d6.

Also, make sure to designate what type of action it is to make those "feints" in combat. Perhaps if you take a full-round the DC is more difficult? For instance, as a free action usable once per enemy per minute its DC 10+CHA modifier. If you use a standard action it is DC 15+CHA modifier, and if it is a full-round action it is DC 20+CHA modifier. This way it is always useful, as the DC is competitive.

Spunky also seems the most underpowered as it has no role in combat (unlike ironically, brazen, protective, and to a lesser extent saucy).

I like the Chosen Weapon thing, you can definitely build on this. Maybe at 10th they get some sort of prc-worthy bonus to their weapon.

Good Work, so far

An interesting class, however, it really is under powered. The extra unarmed damage isn't worth noting unless you are stripped of your weapons, at that point it is merely okay.

Generally when building a class you should try to have something interesting in the begining middle and end of the class. So that the player will keep taking the class.

Right now you have some at the begining, especially with the massive skill points at the start (that is why I presume you have lv 1 skill points on a PrC?)

I think I do have a tendacy to underpower things a bit when it comes to character types, having to counteract players who's instinct is to overpower things. But the point about needing goodies at higher levels is well put. I'll be working on that presently.

As far as the first level skill points go, you caught me on that one. The class idea started out as a core class, and when I converted it to a PrC, it slipped under the radar.

And she will be getting better unarmed combat damage. I have one in a story I'm writing, and she thrashes the main character (Kilmore :o ) in a barroom brawl.

Here's an idea. They're quick fighters with their chosen sword. They get even more attacks per round than standard fighters, but the attacks are slightly less effective.

In addition I've given them Fast Movement like a monk or barbarian at 5th level and added a new ability at 7th level, Grace, and at 9th level, Soul of the Sword

Grace gives the Sister of Surrea a +2 bonus to any Balance and Tumble checks, as well as any Perform skill that involves broad physical motion such as Dancing or Juggling.

Soul of the Sword gives a +2 bonus to her chosen sword while she uses it. It functions in every way the same as a standard +2 magic bonus, but the weapon does not actually detect as magical. Monks who have studied the effect suggest it is a ki ability the Surreans have spontaneously generated due to their closeness with their weapons.

Level Sword BAB U/Attk Special
1 +1 1d4 Unarmed strike, chosen sword, support
2 +2 1d4
3 +3 1d4 Surrean Special Trait
4 +4/-2 1d6
5 +4/-1 1d6 Bonus Feat, Fast Movement
6 +5/+0 1d6
7 +6/+1 1d6 Grace
8 +6/+1/-2 1d8
9 +7/+2/-1 1d8 Soul of the Sword
10 +8/+3/+0 1d8 Bonus Feat

As noted before, these ideas are cast in Jello. Comments appreciated.

The changes have not been made to the linked class yet. I'm waiting for feedback on the proposed changes above.

Honestly I like everything but the iterative attacks thing. Just...too out there. I would switch levels 9+10 bonus, make them go all the way to get Soul of the Sword, and they get a bonus feat at 9th level.

Good stuff, I think you made some excellent changes. 1 suggestion is to throw ki strike in at 10th level and tone the sword ability to +1. This way you can pierce damage reduction 1 guys and your sword is a little better. A fitting end.
