PrC trade hit points for spell levels?

I recall coming across a PrC where you could trade hit points for spell levels (as you cast a spell) so as to not use a spell slot. You could also trace spell slot for hit points. You start out at a 4-1 ratio and work yourself up to a 1-1 ratio.

I'm not sure if it was a WOTC produce, 3rd party product, or something I saw on wotc or enworld.org forums.

(And yes, I have tried searching for it.)

Must be 3rd party.

Sounds kinda broken... being able to cast cure light wounds (which gives 1d8+5 HP) for the price of 4 HP is always a good deal.

Agreed. By the time a party has a wand of cure light wounds, HP are fairly irrelevant!

I believe it was an arcane PrC, though I don't know if that prevents the cure light wounds problem.

I think the 1-1 ratio ability was the capstone of the ten level PrC, and you started at 4-1. So it would cost you 16 hit points to cast cure light wounds at first. When you are level 15 or so, it would be a 1-1, but wouldn't you have better means of healing at that level?

Only if the party doesn't include a bard, cleric, druid, paladin, ranger, anyone else with CLW on their spell list, or anyone with a decent UMD score...

Arcanists can get healing spells simply by spending a feat to do so, or by using splatbooks. They can also easily get temporary hit points in core.

The end result of a PrC must be balanced as well as the beginning. At the end of the PrC, a sorcerer would only have to give up 9 hit points to cast Wish. Alternatively, he could give up 5 hit points and cast Heal, which is indeed a better means of healing. (He'd be spending a feat to make this possible, but surely that is a good use of a feat.)

Only similar thing I recall is a homebrewn setting with nearly no healing from someone who used to be posting here IIRC.
