PRCS for a warmage?

Depending on your DM's interpretation of the rules, Rainbow Servent, in CD is either the best thing a Warmage can take, or an utter waste of 10 levels. Its capstone ability grants access to ALL CLERIC SPELLS... but, it doesn't specifically say they're added to your list. A nice DM (like mine) takes this to mean that a Warmage/Rainbow Servent can spontaneously cast every single spell on the cleric list; a mean one rules that you get nothing from it at all.

Sand Shaper is similarly good, and far less ambiguous, adding a goodly number of buffs and summons to your spells known (its exact words) at the very first level.

The problem with the one interpretation is that it totally beefs up the Warmage beyond reasonableness.

As a DM, it makes sense to not allow a Warmage to take this PrC.

War Weaver isn't really a good fit, as the Warmage is all about blasting.

As previously mentioned, Argent Savant works well with it, though there's mandatory multiclassing. A friend did a Clr 1/Pal 2/Wmg several to get into Argent Savant and it was quite nifty.

War Wizard of Cormyr, from Magic of Faerun, works pretty well, especially if you take a level of Arcane Devotee (from MoF and PGtF) first. A level or two of Spellsword, from CW, works pretty well for BAB and save boosts.

If you're in Eberron, you can take Prophesy's Shaper and auto-Empower many of your spells without increasing casting time.

Brad

IMO this depends alot on just how many War Mage spells are actually viable (sadly, I left my PHB after last game...) for the Eldritch Tapestry. War Mage alone is badass on the battlefield... but one that can Share spells like Fire Shield or Ring of Blades with his comrades? Awesome! :p Of course, If I had to choose I'd go with a War Mage / Force-missile Mage 5... possibly with a dip in Argent Savant to further tweak the MM.

The Warmage's spell access after 16th class level is actually broad enough that they qualify for the Archmage. Check it out if you don't believe me.

Scintillating Pattern is the key, giving Warmages 5th level or higher spells in 5 schools. A Warmage/Archmage with Mastery of Elements is pretty nasty.

huh, would've never guessed they could qualify for Archmage! 16th lvl is a bit late in the game to start thinking about PrCs though... but Archmage could be worth the wait.

Many PrCs give spell access every level, so a Warmage could qualify for and take a 10 level PrC at level 6 and then turn around and take Archmage at level 16.

Spell focus necromancy (for horrids) and ... shoot don't remember the other conjuration? With all the cool non-evocation spells, I usually don't care if they make thier save on area of effect spells. It just wasn't worth the feats for my warmage, I had other plans up to 6th level, and at that point it was too late for the three feats. Sudden maxamize three times was more apealing anyway.

Yeah, its painfully obvious now... just never thought about it.
