Continuing in our tradition we've given nearly a 1/4 of our book away to make a free, stand-alone product that's useful in and of itself. A Magical Society: Guide to Mapping is the three mapping sections from A Magical Society: Ecology and Culture. It'll help you make better maps.

And remember folks, we work slowly so you dont have to! :D

34 U$S (27 + 7 of shipping) are not to be taken lightly in the light of Argentina's ongoing economic crisis (i.e. I don't see my salary expanding threefold like I *did* see it shrink to a third of it's value, in American Dollars).

However, I'm getting my claws ready for the PDF version!

(sidenote: I found out that PDF is a great way to get great books at a really low price... I print them myself and get them spiral-bound for very little money. I've been trying to get other people in Argentina to follow my example...the biggest complaint is that not everyone here has a credit card, so ordering is sometimes impossible.

Plus... some people who've been in the Argentine gaming scene for a while say that Argentine gamers don't understand about supporting the hobby with their money. They get quite aprehensive with their wallets.)

Update: Just downloaded and browsed the free Mapping Guide. It looks great!!

However, something worries me: Will you offer a "Printable" version of the final PDF? It looks quite good, but it's completely un-printable as it is.

Hi Joe!

Yup, just downloaded the Mapping Guide as well, and it looks very useful. I have to agree with wocky though: the background on it is *really* dark and would eat up lots of ink when printed out. For that matter, it also makes it hard to read even on the screen! (And the nice cursive font used in the interlude makes things even harder...)

There will be two files in the MS:EC PDF download: one with background and one without. That way you can read the one you like and print the one you like.

I'm really looking forward to this book. The PDF came just as I was thinkign 'I must do a serious map of my world'... Great timing!

When you say 'there will be' you mean 'there is not right now, but there will be one soon and we will tell ou when we've changed the zip' cos there was only one file in my version.

Just as a FYI, I've also spotted a typo on pg. 8.

The Guide to Mapping is only one file, but when people purchase A Magical Society: Ecology and Culture, they receive a screen version (with art and background) and a print version (with art but no background).

Just as a FYI, I've also spotted a typo on pg. 8.
Doh! Thanks for the heads up. We've sent everything off to the printer's already, so you may see that typo again. :) But I guess that's mea culpa on my end. I edited that chapter.

Any chance of making the background a whole bunch lighter? As it is, I can't imagine anyone using the background one for online reading *or* printing! [And based on the other comments, that doesn't seem to be just a quirk of my own monitor settings... Crothian commented on how hard it is to read in his ENworld review as well.]
