Pre-written treasure parcel handouts?

I think I'm gonna produce this - simply because it's useful to me, so it might be useful to others. If it's not, not loss. I'll make it available in the subscribers download area for those interested.

I'm gonna go with the following format: PDFs which include a range of pre-described treasure parcels. I think I can just about design 30 treasure parcels per month (one a day) with full descriptions, so each will have 30 parcels from 1-30, repeated each month, in a format designed to be printed out and handed out to the players.

I realise it won't be useful to everyone, but it's an addition to what's there not a replacement, so some subscribers may find it useful. If nothing else, it'll be useful to me!

Here's the sort of thing I have in mind (prettied up and proofread a bit, of course - this was just a concept piece).

Morrus: You seem to be asking for feedback, so I'm going to throw in my 2 cents. I've designed a number of treasure and item type cards for my game over the past few years, so I've gotten some practice in.

In general, I think this is a good idea. I like your initial concept.

1) Could you change the format to baseball card size? This creates a 3x3 grid of cards on each page with small margins. These cards then fit well into card sleeves for storage. (This is the size used for Monster Cards and Spell Cards I've seen in other PDF products as well.)

2) The level of the treasure parcel should be printed on the card, even if it's just a small number in the corner. Makes it easier for the DM to put them away after.

3) While the background looks nice on the screen, it will suck ink like a sponge. Maybe a version with plain or simple backgrounds to ease printing?

I do spot a drawback with #1 in that you'd have 35 card slots in 4 pages of the product, but only 30 levels each month. Not sure what to do about that. (Though some of the extra space could be filled with legal info or with level-0 cards of random junk in their pockets.)

You asked in another post if this would make one subscribe. If subscribing included the monthly updates to this product, and I were playing 4th Ed currently, this would make me want to renew my subscription again. Right now, I'm playing another game, so my answer would be "not until I'm running 4th Ed".

I did try that initially, and it works fine for shorter entries - but some of the long ones I just couldn't get even close to fitting in to a card of that size. I'll keep experimenting, though.

Morrus, you're too lazy to look up a couple items before a game, but you have the drive and initiative to create an ongoing series of treasure parcels in a grab 'n go format for people, pretty it up, proofread it, and publish it? Maybe it's just me, but that second one seems like a lot more work ;)

Personally, though, I'd use it! My main concern, however, is that different people want different items, and party compositions are always different. Though I suppose with a big enough chunk of "level 8 items" I'll be able to find *something* appropriate for my group after a quick scan :)

I'd buy it!

The irony is not lost on me! :)

I kinda see it as if the product doesn't exist, I have to suck it up and do it for myself. And if I'm going to have to do that anyway, why not make it available to others and perhaps get EN World a few more subscribers while I'm at it?

I like it. All I would suggest is that you avoid completely random parcels like this one:
