Prestiege Class Question

I should mention that in the last dragon/dracolich encounter these characters aren't trying to die to qualify for the class, in fact one character while paralyzed was dragged through frost and pengelum traps, hit by the breath weapon (no save) and then attacked outside by a bite and still I only dropped him to -8 hp. So technically he never really died and then still doesn't qualify for the class. Should I have fudged the damage or not?

i would say, "not".

did any other PCs die in the encounter? (that may qualify you for the 'lost a loved one to a dragon' requirement.)

otherwise, you may just want to talk to your DM about it. if the PrC wasn't too outlandish, i think i may allow 'coming really close to death, but not quite', to cover the requirement. :D

Sounds like you already did.

Oh...wait...I was thinkin' of a six letter word that kinda sounds like "fudged", and that changes everything...so nevermind. :D

That just brings up images of the player not helping his friends, hoping they die by the wounds the dragon casued so he can can qualify for the class. Or going to a local town falling in love with a maiden, taking her to a dragon layer to die, so he can qualify for the class.

Or maybe I've been reading BoVD too much. :D

Hm... they should not put requisites such as that one into a PrC. Unless they add "without your involvement" or something behind that "lost a loved one to the dragon!" lest would-be Dragonslysers feeding their parents or wifes to dragons by the dozen... :D Of course, many do that already with their mothers-in-law, but that's more putting up a dragon duel... ;)

Here's a Question.

What if you thought your family was killed by a dragon, you took the prestige, went out killed a bunch of dragons, returned home and found out that you family was still alive would you have to return the levels?

Classes with these type of requirements I don't think are meant for players to plan to go that route. I see it mor eof a person getting killed by a dragon, coming back from the dead, and then going after this prestige class.

Sure, but in certain groups, in may be fine for a player to plan on this (in consultation with the DM, that is). It's just not the sort of thing the character would be planning on.

That is very true. Many prestige classes need to be aimed for at earlier levels to be able to aquire at a decent level.

I don't think you could take the prestige class since technically you don't qualify for it.
