Just looking for some basic feedback over some thoughts I had for a one-trick pony spell caster.
Arcane Focuser
Weapons and Armor: as PH Wizard.
Skills: as PH Wizard.
2 skills/level + Int Bonus.
Hit Die: d4.
Class Requirements:
Must be a Specialized Wizard, Able to cast 3rd level Arcane Spells, Spell Focus in Specialized School.
Universal Loss: In order for an Arcane Focuser to reach the apex of his specialty, he must dedicate his mind to the single purpose of his specialization. Arcane Focusers lose the ability to cast all spells, and use magic items, from the Universal domain.
Arcane Focus: Upon gaining an Arcane Focus, an Arcane Focuser must choose an additional prohibited school or schools using the rules on page 54 of the Player's Handbook. If it is not possible to give up additional schools of magic in order to respecialize, this feat may not be taken. The Arcane Focuser can never again learn spells from that prohibited school or schools. Specifically, she can not use the prohibited spells she knew prior to taking this level of Arcane Focus, including using magic items, or items that are activated by spell completion or spell trigger.
For each additional Arcane Focus, the Arcane Focuser gains another spell per level/day to cast from her school of specialization, a +2 to saves against spells her school of Specialization, and a +2 to all Spellcraft checks for her school of Specialization.
I put the loss of Caster levels early in the class, in order to balance Evokers and Necromancers when taking this class. I am aware that only Diviners and Necromancers will be able to progress to all 10 levels of this Prestige Class, but I decided to defer the the Players Handbook guide on page 54 in order to allow the multiple schools of specialization to balance.
I _think_ 3 caster levels and the inhibition from casting any other school of magic, is worth the extra spells (up to 7 per day per level depending on school) until maybe the casting level gets to 17(Player level 20), and 9th level spells start getting slung, but want to hear discussion.
I also left the will saves as a low advancer to indicate the lack of an open mind, as the Arcane Focuser is really a one trick pony, and not open to other avenues.
