Prestige Class for a Fighting Bard?

Chaotiticion (sp?) in the planer handbook. Take for a couple of levels at most. Gives Martial weapon prof and all armor prof and some very cool abilities all in a prestige class so no worrying about multiclassing xp penalties.

Jade Phoenix Mage from Tome of Battle and Sublime Chord from Complete Arcane.

Bard 4/Crusader 2/JPM 4/Sublime Chord 2/JPM 6/SC 2

BAB +17
1st-3rd level bard spells
4th-9th level Sor/Wiz spells
Cast all spells in light armor with no ASF (medium if you take Battle Caster from Complete Arcane)
8th level maneuvers
Charisma bonus to Will saves (2nd level Crusader)
Use bardic music to increase caster level (2nd level Sublime Chord)

Fochlucan lyrist is a bear to qualify for, but it gives a full BAB and increases both your bard and druid caster levels.

I second Warchanter from CW, although it has a high entry level, it really keeps the flavor of the bard's music while upping his combat ability, in return for loss of spellcasting progression. And hasn't anyone mentioned Dervish (also CW) yet? When they "perform," people die!
