Prestige Weapons and Armor

I'm not sure how odd this will sound, but I'm looking for something I saw either here or a similar board a while back. It was a post/link to or about Prestige Weapons and Armor. Brief description, these items are "fed" XP from the PC and level up as the character levels up. The idea intrigued me and has recently come to the front of my mind for some reason or other.

Anyway, if anyone knows of where (or if) I can find these descriptions, let me know. Thanks! :-)

By sheer coincidence, I pimped my "imbued magic" rules here, not 24 hours ago. But why not again?

The ability to increase the power of a weapon is available to Samurai in "Oriental Adventures", through the sacrifice of incense/gold, IIRC.

The d20 AEG book "Rokugan" has a variant of this, burning xp. It also allows the same to be done for armour (or is that in Way of the Samurai?... I can never remember)

One of the Dragon Magazine issues had an article on "Leveling Up" weapons and armor. I don't remember exactly which issue number it was, but I'm pretty certain it was the issue themed around Monks.

Thanks people for your feedback! Hong, what you have posted is very close to what I'm looking for. If I can't find the exact thing I'm looking for, I might use yours as a basis and try and remember what I can of the Prestige Items post.

But thanks all, and keep the info coming if there's more to be had. :-)

That would be issue #289. A fine, fine article, and a decent issue too.

These are some great rules, but I would feel more comfortable if the PC were able to take a feat at 4th level to allow him to do it. It should require dedication and effort to want to imbue an item.

Perhaps it could be "Imbue: (insert Item name here)" feat. I am also going to read that article again, just to get a better feel... I hate it when I skim thrugh my Dragon mags.

The article is written as though the weapon (or armour) is the limiting factor, not the character. All the powers and enhancements come pre-set for that item to be unlocked as you advance it.

Compare this to Hong's method, where the user picks the enhancements and, by extension, what order they come in. That's way more powerful and flexible. I wouldn't be uncomfortable requiring a feat to imbue any old weapon, but one that's already hard-wired shouldn't need one.

Throwing Dice Games' latest "Tuesday Two Pager" has feats for powering up items, too. Haven't had a chance to read through it yet, so I can't offer any reviews.
