Preview of the new D&D COmic!

You're missing the point. Varis, the elf ranger, is talking in a way that will grate on the dwarf *on purpose*. Hence "Shortcut. Just say Shortcut" line. Looks like John Rogers is acknowledging the elf/dwarf stereotypes and lampshading them.

That's an angle I hadn't considered. Sarcasm, as everyone on the internet knows, does not translate well to text, and if that was what they were going for then their choice of first line to introduce the character is... very questionable.

At the very least, while I hope you're right, there's not enough context in the preview itself to decide whether the elf was being ironic or is genuinely pretentious. The dwarf's response works either way.

I think there was a small missed opportunity here.

WoTC took out half-orcs and gnomes and gave us tielflings and dragonborn.

The ball, afaic, has been dropped about 100% on dragonborn. I've read several novels set in the 4e era of FR, no dragonborn.

Minis? Scarce.

So they dropped some fan favorite material for what was supposed to be some great and grand player fantasy wishlist bit and have essentially done nothing with it outside of the RPG that might expand it's presence if I'm looking at this correctly.

Comic looks good for what it is though but like others, I'll probably wait for the trade.

I love Rogers' run on Blue Beetle (where sarcasm and hilarity ensued*), and the editor said in the WotC interview that there is an unexpected twist regarding the elf, so we'll see.

Colour me incredulous at the ridiculous criticisms being leveled at this comic by certain posters. It's a comic about D&D, bro, and you're upset that the first issue has a classic D&D party? Come off it, man. It's a comic. The dialogue wasn't Shakespeare, true, but again, it's a comic -- and the dialogue wasn't even that bad for a comic. Talk about being pretentious, yikes.

On another note, did anyone else notice that when the Tiefling cast her spell (third page, IIRC), she was speaking in Draconic? The alphabet was straight outta Draconomicon: Chromatic Dragons. It reads, "eldritch blast". (I guess that's confirmation that she's a Warlock.)

As a "get down there, killit, survivit, getdaloot" player that got stuck in the 1e era (now playing C&C) consider me one happy customer for this comic. If I find a channel that ships it over the pond at a reasonable price, that is.

You guys can continue to roleplay your bard clipping his fingernails. I prefer the stereotypical dungeon rompin' :D (ruby eyed statues included)

I will disgree here. There are quite a few Dragonborn and Tiefling minis. I'd argue they became PH1 and "Pet" races due to fairly ubiquitous (at least in my experience) nature of teh half-dragon and half-fiend templates in 3E.

That doesn't necessarily mean they make more interesting literary characters though.

Are there 10 dragonborn minis? Seroiusly. I don't think so. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I know one of them is a 'repaint' of a dragonborn of the old school verison.

And I'd take the potential conflict in tielfling/draognborn in a party as opposed to the dwarf/elf bits we're seeing here.
