I'm glad to hear it, because I really like that bathwater, and the baby is taking up valuable space for more bathwater, especially that old bathwater I used to really like in the old tub which hasn't gotten an opportunity to fill part of the new tub. ;)
I didn't know the Extend Spell feat also applied to metaphors...

And who knew there was an Overextend...

;)

I'm excited about the new DT, though I'm still undecided on the Drow book and Complete Champion

I wanted to Maximize it, but the metaphor is already too high level. ;)

I like classed monsters, and lairs, and other things that breathe life into monsters rather than just have them be a pile of stats. That is one of the things that people have said they like about Dragon, and Monsternomicon, and Book of Fiends....

don't forget, those Kuo Toa are master paints, so while the sculpt will be the same, the paint jobs won't be that nice.

I'm looking forward to the Tiles, and probably Complete Champion and the Secret Spire or whatever it is called exactly.

A lot of people say they don't belong in Monster Manuals at all. I'm one of them. Many of us have agreed that classed monsters and new creatures need to have their own books. Monster Manuals should stay, as traditionally, as the book that brings new critters to your games. Not cluttered with classed creatures from previous Monster Manuals.

Why don't you guys consider a "Book of Adversaries" or some such, where it's thick chock full of classed monsters and keep the Monster Manuals the way they should've been?

A lot of us? Really? I'm more inclined to believe Mearls assessment that there are a handful of folks on the boards who don't like it, but that many more actually do like it and use it.

While new classed versions of existing monsters are not as exciting as entirely new monsters, they got a lot more use . . . in my campaign, and apparently in others as well.

I think that the tweaking of this concept in MMV is freaking brilliant. Classed monsters with new feats, special abilities and other unique options. This makes this book a must buy for me!

drown the baby.

:nadt:

I'm one of those who likes all the stuff that's in such poor repute here. MMIV is a much stronger resource for me than previous monster books have been, simply because the additional content (classed monsters, lairs, lore, etc) is a great source of ideas AND a great time-saver when I just need something quick. "New" monsters are, frankly, a dime a dozen. It's keeping the classic, iconic creatures that players expect to see freshthat's the big challenge in my experience.

So yay to experimenting with the mix from this DM.

I actually get the impression that the metaphor level sinks when metamagic feats are applied... :p

With the cover (which was already known) and the reference to draconic masterminds and to mind flayers... I better should not get my hopes up, right? But it's so tempting to believe....

I actually like having monsters with class levels, but I'd prefer them in a Rogue's Gallery type of supplement.

Also, the benefit of having monsters with class levels and equipment only works if the math is right.

The only monster book I own is the first Monster Manual.

But damage scales way up.
