Because I find it stupid that you can burn fire elementals.

Call me a traditionalist, but a creature immun to fire should be immun to fire no matter how hot the fire is.
I hate it that under WotC new policy "Everything should be effective at all times" defensive abilities get nerfed to death.

Multiclassed casters can't penetrate SR? Give them Assay Resistance. SR is a joke now and it would make no difference if it would be removed completly. There are feats which lower DR of the target and now we get feats which let caster bypass resistance and immunity.
Sure it sucks when a mage specialiced in fire magic encounters a red dragon, but that is the price you pay for extreme specialication. But no, fire magic of course has to be effective even in this situation...

I have to agree with Derren. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that something can be so immune to heat that it can traipse around the Elemental Plane of Fire, or so immune to cold that it can handle ZERO Kelvin (if we mix a bit of physics in with our magic), yet some piddling caster with a munchkin feat can burn or freeze it.

Feats to simply ignore magical bonus to AC or cover, sneak attacking undead -- blegh! If every rule is going to be broken, just stop writing them in the first place!

IIRC creatures with the [Cold] subtype which in turn grants immunity to cold wouldn't take damage from spells with the Ubercold feat. Creatures with cold immunity without the [Cold] subtype would take the Ubercold damage.

I'd expect the same from the Sandstorm fire version.

Yeah , Piercing Cold doesn't damage creatures with the [Cold] subtype, though they can tell the spell is colder than usual.

Now I understand, and for the most part I agree with you, on both the specific point of bypassing elemental immunity and the larger issue of certain design principles that seem to be, "For every thing, there must a be a perfectly balancing thing."

They're optional rules. Don't use them if you don't like them - that's what the +5 pen of unholy rule smiting is for.
