subject says it all. was wondering how much an item would cost that would allow you to cast polymorph self twice per day?
(and worn as a neck item or possibly a bracelet/bracers)

Moreover, the DMG guidelines peg such an item (command word activated, 7th caster level, 4th level spell, 2 charges / day) puts this just over 20k gp (20160). This is on par with: Cloak of the Manta Ray, and some Ioun stones it's hard to compair it properly to (since these get increased cost because the're slotless). It's slightly below a rope of entanglement...

In this case I'm not sure I'd agree with the price by the formula. For one thing pollymorph is a complex effect , allowing various forms and such... given the versitility such an item would be problamatic to me... I'd most likely limit it to one to three pre-selected forms and price it around 18k. If it was the full pollymorph effect and allowed any spell I'd put it at 25-30k myself (depending on the verison of pollymorph).

Note that this assumes the exact spell duplication: it would last 7 hours / use and function exactily as whatever version of the pollymorph spell is currently in vogue in all reguards. Likewise it's dispellable, requires a standard action to activate and so forth.

but this is one of the least useful posts I've seen.

Just give it a few minutes and you'll no doubt see another one.

To avoid being one of those people, I'll give you a hand. Since you didn't specify a duration, I'll just assume 8 hours. Also, you didn't specfiy the activation method. Is command-word ok? If so, you'd be looking at about 23,040 gp. The formula is 4 x 8 x 1800 / 5 x 2.

How's that?

no offense

but don't expect any precise [edit: I meant rightful or correct, there's none] answer. Only a DM should have a word on this. / would not allow it. Especially not as a bracerlet or a necklace. A ring maybe, but not a bracelet. And it would cost a lot. I'd say around the 5-60 000 gp. Stone giant two times per day ? No way! I would allow it for specific (read: useless) uses. Like as a +10 to disguise item. But still for that use it wouldn't be cheap.

This is the most subjective question one could ask about a magic item. If you're the DM, compare with other items and keep in consideration the use of such an item in regards to your campaign. If you're a player, as a player myself, I would say: forget it.

The price of this item depends strongly on what your DM thinks of polymorph effects in general.

Some DMs think the Polymorph X spells are far overpowered, because they have potential for both great flexibility and great combat power. Others think their built-in limitations are enough to keep them balanced at 4th level.

Personally I'd price this item significantly higher than the guidelines say. Unlike most items, which have only one use (or a few related uses), a polymorph effect can be used in nearly any situation. (Want wings? Gills? Combat prowess? Natural armor? A bonus to Hide? Polymorph is good for anyything.) I'd price this no lower than 50k.

[Edited to add: Hey, my post count has broken 4 digits! Woo! Go me!]
