Priest - Another not hugely fighty cleric

I like the bard (esp. 3.5) in comparison to the wizard and sorcerer, as he has really a different feel, IMHO.

Concerning the difference between sorcerer and wizard. Well, IMO they are way too similar, since in addition to having access to the same spells (the main definition of an arcane caster) they have the same BAB, saves, familiars, etc. They do not deserve to be two distinct classes, IMHO.

Your priest, OTOH, differs from the cleric already in terms of BAB and saves. Hence, he is something different. How far one wants to go with making him more different is just a matter of taste. You have presented one way to do it, I think I would change some more things compared to the cleric (turning, spell selection, etc.), for making the two classes really distinct. But as said, this is just a matter of personal taste.

Spell selection being too similar? the priest only gets spells from his domains, so the clerics spell list and the priests spell list could be completely different. As in, with different domain choices and such it is actually possible that neither could cast the same spells as the other ;) With the feat choices and powers they have pretty different roles in the party and I think a party could do well with one of each. For a party with a sorcerer and a wizard there are similarities and overlap but they can work it so that there isnt as much.

Though really, the priest is very weak in the combat side sompared to the cleric and basically tries to catch up with verisitility of casting. ;) If you took away a few of the abilities in order to make them more 'distinct' what would you give them to replace it?

Actuallty, spontaneous casting is quite good already. If the knwon spells are not as limited as for the sorcerer, this is a perfect tradeoff in terms of power, IMHO. A cleric prepares so many spells which he will tranform into cure spells anyway, and if he actually needs a special spell, he most likely has not prepared it, and he has to wait one day if possible.

In comparison, a priest who knows the spells never runs out of important spells (divination, augury, etc.). So spells known and spells per day are the control mechanism for the power of the priest.
