Primal Power Excerpt - Stonefire Rager

See that reads like a human warrior channelling a Dragon or Fire Spirit ..
(but change the words stone with metal hard scales in the description of the Paragon Path and its considerably different or is it.). At this point he could be hunting up a Adult Pact Dragon to ride because his Warwing Drake doesnt breath fire...

Sure tastes are fine and I influence players all the time urge them to bring there visualisations more in line with my game world... A goliath or dwarf chanelling a volcano spirit I would want more of the rock feel to because well the dwarves of may game world are constructs like warforged (and most are built that way) and they already have a more rock like nature.

Is it okay if other people want the fluff a certain way? Must a person's dislike of the way something is written be cuffed as "well... do X"?

I think you may have me wrong ?

I was pointing out the flavor fluff and visualization element is pretty flexible for me if a player brought this to me and I didnt find the visualization fit well with my world? I might present an alternative(pretty much what Avin did here). I do think that taking all the stone out of it might undermine the flavor of it considerably for me.

The visualization of those powers is very open to interpretation (one player might hear me mentioning a spirit dragon with effects that are much like this paragon path and go wow way cool... lets do it that way). I think disallowing the pp offhand would be short shifting my own and my players imagination.

Generally me and the player would discuss how to get things to work.... I let PC's be unique individuals and considerabley different than the norm... but its fun to figure out how they can fit better as a part of my game world.... its a process of compromise. ... and we have to figure out how to get that paragon path in to the world somehow even if I loved it up front... so we are always involved in a discussion about it...

And in the PHB 3.0 they tell you to customize the classes too.

Not something I'm interested in doing. If I'm going that route, I'd rather go that route if that makes sense.

I don't think "creating a character background" requires tossing out existing fluff or reflavoring anything. A character from a martial barbarian tribe who exists as a Battlerager fighter seems absolutely appropriate. A powerful tribal leader who is a Warlord is equally fitting. We're not talking about throwing out existing fluff, we're talking about simply removing the preconceived notion that "Fighter" = "Soldier".

Way back when there were 4 classes (Fighter,Magic-user,Cleric,Thief) there was very little doubt that those were general categories... The more "classes" you have the more likely you will get people thnking they are "identities" instead of "classifications".
