It's a not uncommon technique for a quarterstaff; you cannot brace a club that way and still swing it effectively, as you'd have insufficient mass to matter

The game differentiates anyway. A quarterstaff in 2 hands does d8 damage while a quarterstaff in 1 hand does d6 damage.

Yeah, but, I'm not convinced if you're using it one handed that you should be able to combine that with the feat to gain reach attacks. Two handed, I can see no problem, but one handed? How are you getting that reach, over, say, a longsword?

Let out 2' of it as you regrip for reach, then make a fencing lunge... With a 5' staff, I've tagged peoiple up to 12' away doing that, 1 handed. Gravity and inertia are in fact your friends...

It's RAW and confirm on twitter, and can be found in the sage advice page. It's something that actually gives quarterstaff some appeal, even if it might seem a bit odd.

Jeremy Crawford @JeremyECrawford Follow @GunnerMcGrath The Polearm Master feat doesn't require the quarterstaff to be wielded with two hands.

Does the extra attack from polearm master function with shillelagh cantrip, when cast on the said quarterstaff?
Does the bonus attack use your caster stat, and is it d8 or still d4?
