D&D 5E (2014) Princes of the Apocalypse campaign recaps

Reading these over, as a writer, I'm always annoyed by the spelling errors, but then I think, ya know, for writing it pretty fast and doing one after edit, it's actually not too damn bad.

I am also running Princes of the Apocalypse with a group that has come over from Lost Mine (well 3 of them have, the other 4 are more or less new).

Its part of the Wed Night Encounters and its taken a while for the party to move on from Red Larch and they are investigating the Feathergale Spire. They actually arrived at night, which was awkward as I couldnt really have they just turn up to the feast like that, so they were welcome by Savra, taken to see Thurl and they ingratiated themselves where they were allowed to stay. One of the characters was interesting in sparring with Savra who he beat. Thurl does not like the party Barbarian as he speaks rudely and out of turn. They ended up going to the feast the next day and took down the manticore.

Im at the point where Im undecided if Thurl will help the party because of the Barbarians antics. Savra is going to talk to the male Ranger about the Elemental powers. I hope the party explore the Sighing Valley because so far they have NOT been very investigative.

Wow. Devastation Orb all ready? Cool.

My group so far has taken down Rivergard And Sacred Stone. Hellenrae survived but joined up with Larrakh in Red Larch and just attempted revenge on he party...I had her work with Larrakh and the believers to sacrifice some townsfolk to make little darkness orb grenades...she took down two party members before being forced to flee but I waited too long amd they managed to kill her. Larrakh is still alive though. I'm thinking he has a devastation orb and is going to use it before fleeing...Red Larch will be destroyed.

Ooh...little tiny hand held Devastation Orbs.. I love that, just a shadow of the big nukes that killed the towns. or MIGHT kill the towns.

I just...didn't like the way the Vale scenario was laid out. Yeah, i know it was a Side Trek, so it worked as far as that. It made it a little more interesting though if it tied into the plot, so I kept the best part [the oni killing the dwarves! although that was disastrous death to him :(]

I see so many ways i could have done that encounter different.

Here's something I'm getting worried about: the PCs have reached the levels where they can start taking on the Temples and Keeps in ascending order. For those that have done it, does this get repetitious? I think they'll enjoy encounter the Howling Hatred, that will be scary [and hopefully come up next session].

But from there, does it just become a systematic slog from one to the next as they gain levels? That's kind of why i wanting to also cut it off no later than 12th and just shorten the duration.

I love when crits change the adventure. It adds a bit of swingyness to even mundane fights.

I also used a sleetstorm spell at a bad time. It's really best used to pin down an enemy whil you manuever or retreat. It blinds and slows down everyone.

I don't know if it gets repetitive yet as my group did two haunted keeps then into the earth temple. I'm thinking letting them tackle two temples then move on. Likely the air or fire temple will be the strongest since they have weakened the earth and water cults so much.
