Minrothad Cutter Issue 122

I mentioned previously that this is bi-weekly, and I meant Twice Monthly. I include some background on the campaign, along with rumors of what is going on in the game world. Trying to keep things open-ended, so the group has an idea of what is going on in the country around them, as well as putting in adventure hooks. Initially as members of a crew, they do not get as many choices for adventures, but once they have their own ship, they can decide where in the Sea of Dread they want to ply their business.

The Minrothad Cutter Issue-122

The Cutter is a periodical exposing the Keel of the Minrothad Nation. Politics, Intrigue, and some general information about the nation as a whole, for visitors and scholars. Established 995 AC

Random Interviews
-anonymous- Continued
“First, he hurt the family guilds in the pursestrings. As regents before Oran came of age they bought substandard materials for the guilds to manufacture with. They pocketed the difference. Between that and raised taxes, they lived fat and happy. Then Oran took over, lowered taxes and made them buy high grade material.” to be continued next issue

History
In 980 AC, Lycanthropes were again discovered in Minrothad; Fear spread that more might have escaped the Silver purge (443 to 445 AC). The council of guild leaders failed to act decisively against the outbreak. The were-menace soon grew into a full-grown plague, with werees appearing on all the islands by the year 989. That year Oran Meditor took office and sent the mercenary guild to deal with the problem. The greatest threat is now past, but weres can remain in unexpected places.

Death from Below

For the next encounter, I wanted to introduce the Shark-kin, a race of underwater shark people in the Mystara world. The crew was separated so that a prize crew was placed on the pirate ship, and this made it easier to manage a combat where the Captain and his higher level command crew did not have to be hand-waved into not participating in the combat. The first and second mate Meroshi and Laucian have split up the crew to follow the Ocean's Ghost into harbor on the prize ship. The party is in bold below

  • Laucian Horatio Harry Dinger
  • Walbo Stinky Engles Ordregan
  • Stillp Thallan Volodar Tiarshus
  • Shyilia Took Bas

These will crew the prize ship. Rations only while on the ship, as all hands were needed to pilot both ships

The captain and the Ocean's Ghost headed to drop off the former crew, while the prize ship holds anchor at the Fjord entrance to Fortress Island.

The ship at anchor is attacked by a hunting part of Shark-kin, while their sharks circle the ship. Death from Below pdf attached. I used 10, with one leader larger than the others.

The Sharkkin are being pushed from their villages, hunting grounds, etc by something, and this will need to be tracked down.

All enter combat, with some attacking other crew, some attacking the party. The Cleric Harry is able to heal any that were injured, and the Bard used his abilities to inspire the whole crew within range. I downloaded an image of a ship, and used the top deck to stage the battle. The Sharkkin come slicing out of the water, alighting on the deck of the ship, while their shark hunting companions circled for anyone falling overboard.

The 2 crews reunited and the prize ship followed the Ocean's Ghost through the Fjord to the Dwarven city of Stronghold.
