[Problem] Too Many Players: Who Gets to Play?

If it's not too late, encourage one of the "kicked out" players to start his own campaign. If he has never DM'd before, now is his chance to start.

There can never be too many DMs.

Actually one of them did have an Eberron game going w/ some other folks that kind of stalled.

But if I can find time I may join up. Though honestly, the idea of Eberron would sit a lot better with me if it weren't for warforged. :heh:

Well, thanks everyone for your suggestions. . .

They went with the Survivor-style vote, choosing alternates as well to take open spots, should they become available.

The votes have been cast and those involved have been notified. . . So we have ourselves a gaming group of 6.
Good luck! Are the left out players from previous still in for sure? Are the left out players right now going to be in the next campaign?

cheers,

I had a campaign a few years ago with 8 players. My idea was that some of them would not show up on a consistent basis and we would be down to a playable 6 or less most of the time. The campaign got rolling and we had 8 players there darn near every week.

You did the right thing.

I also has a campaign with some 11 PCs in it last year. Usually, about 7, 8 or 9 people would show  It was WAY to much, to say the least

Yep. The were automatically on each ballot, leaving room for the voter himself + three other names. They also listed their choice for alternate order.

There was a little grumbling about the first set of free passes I gave out, so I think I am going to avoid giving my word about that kind of thing again. However, that is not to say that I won't give the two currently excluded players some kind of preferential treatment for some future campaign, I am just not going to promise it - as things can change.

No one would go for that.

even if it meant sitting out? Callers were used for reasons just such as these. to help the group and the referee.

Optimal for what, an aneurism? :p

real D&D. the game flows differently with the newer editions and the rules were set based on a different "optimal". for the newest edition 4 is the #. with adjustments down or up. but 8 is about the most i would consider as a player in a campaign. we had 11 in the campaign in my sig. but rarely got 8. never above 8. evar. mostly it was 6.
