Problem with Voidmind Wartroll

Got a page reference for that?
It's part of the description of Regeneration in MMI (p.314). The description also mentions several attack forms that ignore regeneration, e.g. poison, suffocation, and disintegration.

I don't have the MM handy, but the SRD never comes close to saying "Everything dies, once you beat it unconscious." I find it hard to believe the Monster Manual says this, especially buried in the description of the regeneration ability.

Suffocation. Regeneration doesn't help against starvation or suffocation damage - beat it unconscious, then cut out its lungs.

Or get some Trollbane. Alchemical substance that negates regeneration. Problem there is that a single application is only good for one attack: massed archers would be a better bet than smearing it on a sword.

Kill it with things that don't deal HP damage. Negative levels, ability damage, etc. A bunch of Shadows still trump a Voidmind Wartroll any day of the week.

Cast Graymantle on it.

PLENTY of ways to kill a voidmind wartroll.

What Thanee's making reference to is the fact that regeneration does not work against suffocation.

Thus, once something's beaten into unconsciousness, strangle it to death. Thus everything does once you beat it unconscious.

Suffocation, starvation, polymorph it into something that doesn't have Regeneration, death by ability damage, negative levels, death effects, disintegration. There's a pretty long list.

In order to CDG it, you need to hit it with a weapon that does normal damage to it. Which pretty much means that you won't be able to CDG it.

A half-black dragon wartroll is just as tough to kill, and it has some nice melee boosts too.

True, and seeable from the followup posts on the topic, but at the time it was just a blanket statement. Saying that the blanket statement that everything that falls unconscious dies is in the monster manual description of the regerneration ability is ludicrous.

Ok - trollbane isn't around.

Magic isn't exactly useable either considering what this thing is guarding.

The body is bad - yeah... several of em for the Mindflayer Cabal...

Suffocation is about the only thing I have seen so far that would work for sure.

What about Decapitation?

Voidmind template eliminates acid, ability damage and ability drain - let alone energy drain.
Even if magic were around; Death Ward or AMF from the Mindflayer Master would be too easy.

oooh half-black dragon voidmind wartroll... NIIICE :D - Yoink

Everything dies, once you beat it unconscious (well, the Tarrasque might still be 'problematic').

Yep, and I think this one is getting REAL thorny, because it has "Tarrasque like regeneration" in that no form of conventional damage seems to work. The wording inside the regeneration ability is a bit "fuzzy" when it comes to this, because while it states a CDG needs to deal "lethal damage" a CDG attempt as I understand it never dealt damage - it was a straight fortitude save or die...
