Problems running Temple of Elemental Evil

Okay, so I got ToEE a while ago, played but then trailed off before finishing it. Since then, I have gotten a new (more powerful and shiny) computer. I suddenly decided I wanted to play ToEE again. So, I loaded it up, did the patch and . . . it wouldn't run.

I went to the technical help site and did the updates for drivers they suggested. It didn't help. I get the exact issue of "see CD ROM icon but game never starts" and yet nothing under it has helped me.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone have any other ideas? Should I try it without the patch first to see if it works?

Thanks!

Have a good one! Take care!

My system: PIV 3.4, 1 Gig RAM, 256M nVidia 6800, with XP.

Uninstall it first and reinstall after defraging your HD. Then try running it again, if it works apply patchs (there were two or three patches).
If that does not work, take the CD-ROM from your older machine and install it in your new machines and see if that works. Sounds strange, but my friend had a real no-name and it would not run any games whatsoever. He had to move his old Teac over to his new machine to play any games.

I had run it on the computer at my house. Then I took it to my in-laws place and tried it. I had the exact problem you mentioned.

One of the fixes had a link that was broken so I couldn't try that. Now that I have seen this thread I will try only the patches mentioned on that Co8 link.

Thanks a lot.

I had an interesting problem patching ToEE. The patch would not install for some reason, even though it said I had the WIN XP patch version, and I'm ruijng win XP. There was a problem with the patch installer, not the patch. I had to run the patch installier in compatablity mode for win 98 to get it to install. Weird.

Okay, I got it working last night.

I re-installed it and it didn't run. So, I then installed the patches, in the order suggested, and it didn't run. Then I did the noCD fix, which fixed the problem. So, it must have been some SecuROM or other CDROM security issue on my new PC that my old PC didn't have.

It has been running fine since!

Thanks for the help! I hope this helps others!

Hey guys.

Just so you know, the newest update of DirectX will cause ToEE to gain an interesting bug: you will lose the ability to loot corpses. The ToEE website has released a new patch that covers this new bug.

Fantastic game, isn't it? I've played it through as everything but LN, CN, and CE (which I'm doing right now). Never thought I'd see the day when the module that slaughtered all of my players' PCs with big frogs outside the moathouse would become the best thing to happen to a PC since Dungeon Keeper.
