Profession: Trickster

Byronic

First Post
I'm playing a Cleric of the most excellent Elvish breeding, devoted to the Tsar of Trickery and inspired by the trickster archetypes of Loki, Anansi and other such things. As part of faith and devotion I perform the calling of adventurer as much as possible by way of deception and when not actively adventuring travelling or sowing my wild oats preforming a trick or two (or prank depending on perspective) or two.

However after fortunately finding myself with a few skill points to spend I am curious as to one thing.

What exactly could you do with "Profession: Trickster"? Especially since many of the variant skills of the trade are representing by Diplomacy, Bluff and other such things.

Well, owing to the intent of Profession, I would say you could use the skill to earn 1d20 +X skill copper per day. Other than very few crafting requirements I'm aware of, this is what Profession is really for, other than adding "flavor."

I find that Profession is best given to your Followers, who stay at home making money working and crafting so that when you get back from your adventure, there's a bit of spending money waiting for ya.

Say, you have 25 level 1 followers with a Profession: Pencil Trainer with Skill Focus (Pencil Trainer). That would give your guys as much as +11 when training pencils.

25x11=275
And lets take 10 so you don't have to roll 25d20...
That's 250+275=525 copper per day.

By the time you get back from your 2 weeks there, 2 weeks back dungeon adventure, Your boys have made as much as 15750 copper...or 157 gold. Give each of them, say, 2 gold a week...making them 25 of the richest Pencil Trainers (or any other professin for that matter) in the land so they're REALLY happy. that leaves you with 107 gold to buy gear with.

And don't EVEN get me started on getting a bunch of CRAFTING: Composer, Wordsmith, Painters going. These felles will be raking in hundreds of gold per week.

Am I on a tangent or what? Does my EARLIER part of this address your question? :heh:

Ahh without tangents the world would be a narrower and boorish then ever. Or clear and concise, one of the two.

But in any case my DM has a delightfully flexible interpretation of the skills, so with profession I am going more for "You know how to use the tools of your trade, how to perform the profession’s daily tasks, how to supervise helpers, and how to handle common problems." then the actual intent of making money. There is precedent for this in the game, as someone has "Profession: Torturer" which has led to somewhat obvious use in the game.
