Protect yourself against HARM and OTTO'S IRRESISTABLE DANCE?

Take the Still Spell feat and prepare Still Finger of Death. As soon as OID hits you, cast the Finger of Death. Opposing wizard dies, end of encounter.
Still Spell doesn't help. As described in the SRD, OID prevents you from doing anything other than dancing. That's what makes it so powerful. Casting a spell counts as "doing something," even if it has no components.

I've re-read the spells, and it looks like you are correct.

This tactic requires coordination from two casters (I hope OID isn't a cleric domain spell), and OID is very powerful (8th-level). Let's also not forget that Harm, as written, is broken!

Your only hope is to avoid a touch attack (eg with Displacement, Mirror Image if you're a mage, etc), but if your opponent wizard has a bat familiar and a Darkness (or Darklight FRCS) spell, then you're a real goner.

Does a Ring of Freedom of Movement help? Certainly a Protection from Evil spell (since OID is a compulsion, and PfE is only 1st-level).

I think the key thing is to quest for spell resistance and to get a magic item which stores a counter-spell -- like your own copy of OID. As for Harm, the spell is unbalanced. Any self-respecting DM should either cap the damage or institute a saving throw.

For Otto's Irresistable Dance, cast mindblank daily (if a wizard or sorceror) or obtain either a 1/day command word activated mindblank item or a greater spell storing item that will let you have it. Immunity to all mind-effecting spells is a good thing. Immunity to scrying and divinations is even better.

Against Harm, target the cleric with a meteor swarm or use power critical on him while power attacking with your scythe. Or get spell resistance, a greater ring of counterspells, or convince your DM to houserule Harm so that it has a save.

You can do the same thing with the 1st-level spell Protection from Evil, I believe.

what if you made a spell where to cast it you did a dance? Could you cast that spell while 'dancing' or by 'dancing' it mean 'you can do jack :):):):) but your legs move' ??

Nope. While under the effects of OID, all you can do is dance. I might be kind enough to allow someone to do an interpretive dance, but certainly no spellcasting, otherwise bards would still be able to use Perform (Dance) to inspire allies and charm foes.
