Protection from level/ability drain

You have to consider that multiple negative levels will drain more than one charge. So enervation will 1d4 charges.

A more specialized thing, you could create a spellblade (+1 MP modifier) that protects you against a single spell that drains you, or use spell immunity for those spells.
