Protection vs. Dispelling Spells

Dispel magic can be used to dispel any ongoing effect. Against those on a creature, one can have rods of absorption, spell turning and the like to help protect against it. Other than finding ways to increase CL, however, is there a defense against someone dispelling an active spell you cast that is not centered on you (such as a wall or other ongoing effect). Something like spell lock from the good old Master of Magic PC game.

An area dispel only targets the spell with the highest caster level, so you could opt to cast a "sacrificial" cantrip on yourself, and the rest of your buffs at 1 lower caster level (since you can voluntarily opt to lower your own caster level).

Doesn't address the main question I had, however: I have an ongoing spell that I am not the target of (such as a wall spell, a summoned creature, however), dispel magic can target that spell specifically (as per the targeted option). I'd like a way to defend against that.

IIRC there is none. And IMHO should not exist. Dispelling is such a fundamental aspect in 3.5e and every other spells, especially buff spells, are balanced the chance of dispelling in mind.

Ring of Enduring Arcana (Complete Mage) is one of the best protection against dispelling and already strong enough. Maybe too strong as it is a must have for any buffing casters.

Would a ring of counterspells with dispel magic in it do the job?
It will protect against targeted uses on the wearer of the ring, not creature-tied spells.

Buff spells aren't the issue (as those are tied to creatures); its spells (like walls or spiritual weapons) which are entities of themselves.

I discovered it after posting this thread, and it is a benefit to buffing casters and the situation I stipulate above.

That does appear to be the only countermeasure (in addition to any other way to pump up CL) in this situation.

Thanks.

That and in 3.5 we also use 3.0 feat from Magic of Faerun; "Spell girding" that reduces caster level of all casters by 2 while atempting to dispel your spells.

Not certain, but I seem to recall that if you were a shadow weave spell caster (also from the FRCS), that your spells were harder to discern, and dispel.
