[Pseudo-Meta] Discussions about "adult" subjects

Maitre Du Donjon

First Post
Hello all,

These boards are visited by a lot of people, some young, some old(er), and thus, the Grandmother Rule was applied to protect the participants. I agree totally with that rule, as it has helped to build one of the most friendly communities I had that chance of participating in.

I was wondering if the following items "respected" said Rule (I don't want to sound like a prude or an alarmist or whatever):

1) The add about "Tower Siege" (ie "When's the last time you've been laid... Siege too?")

2) Discussions about the Book of Vile Darkness (which was stated as Mature content, IIRC)

3) (perhaps) Discussions about the upcoming book on Erotic Fantasy

I know these boards are closely (and very well) moderated, and perhaps my concern is of no importance (and doesn't have a foundation to begin with). Any have thoughts on the subject?

Maitre D, somewhat concerned about such things when he probably shouldn't be.

Edit: i learn about new forums everyday

Not just "pseudo-", but totally meta! So I've moved it over. :)

In general, innuendo is just fine here, although explicitness may not be. As always, use good judgment when discussing certain subjects. If you see a post that concerns you, please click on the "notify a moderator" link (next to every post) to bring it to our attention.

We expect people not to post sexual or "vile" material that is reasonably considered offensive. It's very, very rare that we end up disappointed.

I think it is best to remember this is a general audience web site with people from pre-teen and older as members.

So, it is possible to broach most topics but with a certain degree of politeness and restraint. I have seen good discussions on such sensitive issues as sex and religion. Of course, some threads can degenerate to the point where the moderators close them or take more severe action. (The Star Trek and Communism thread some time back is one of the few times I recall someone getting banned from the boards. Even then, there were some good points raised by people in that thread.)

A little innuendo is reasonable. Indeed, many television programs have dialogue which can be taken on multiple levels. (Adults get the innuendo, and children generally don't.) When in doubt, ask yourself if something belongs here. If you do have a concern, contact the moderators. They can at least explain why something belongs or does not belong on the boards.

Just remember "When in doubt, Rat it out."
