[Psi] How's this for sleazy?

Upgrade Power [Psionic]

Prerequisite: Any other psionic or metapsionic feat.

Benefit: Choose one power chain from which you have learned a psionic power. When you learn a higher-level power on that chain, you can "forget" one or more lower-level powers you know on the chain, substituting new, different powers of the same lower level instead. If you "forget" a lower-level power and that is the only power you know from your discipline at that level, you must substitute another power from your discipline at that level. You can choose not to "forget" a lower-level power you know, even if learning a higher-level power on a chain for which you have chosen this feat. Recognized power chains are described in the Recognized Power Chains sidebar -- other power chains may be possible (or the recognized power chains may be altered), at your DM's discretion.

Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Each time, it applies to a new power chain

A Psychic Warrior can choose this feat a lot of times, as it's a Psionic Feat, which means any of their bonus feats qualify for it. There's no technical restriction that keeps them from choosing an upgraded power that isn't on their list (yeah, yeah, I know it's unethical and sleazy, just a mental exercise in powergaming).

Examples that spring to mind:

Polymorph Self -> Metamorphasis
Far Punch -> Control Object or Control Body

... ok, it wasn't that sleazy. Sheesh. And it started as such a sneaky idea. Maybe I'm missing some killer combo.

It will not let you choose powers not on your class list. Note that it's written as "When you learn a higher-level power on that chain" - in other words, you must first learn that higher-level power before you're allowed to swap things out.

Also, it is pretty clear to me that the intention of the feat is not to let anyone take powers they normally could not learn. Any player who tried that at my game table would be in for a smack with the clue-by-four.

What is that feat from? I hope not anything by WotC. That 'feat' has been a common variant for both Psions and Sorcerers for awhile now. Again, people are trying to 'fix' psionics by making them take feats to be competetive. A simple rules variant (such as seen in the DMG) would have worked just as well.

Roland, it was in a Dragon magazine. Too bad i don't remember wich # :)

It was either the psi or the sorc version ....
