Psionic Question--Loading PSP's into an Item?

When can you load PSP's into a Crystal Capacitor?

I know that it is at a one to one transfer rate but is it:

Load them once a day when you renew your points,

Or, load them anytime you want to?

If there is an official rule, can you please leave the reference for it also...

Thanks,

I second that. It won't give you an advantage anyway, merely a disadvantage, cause you cannot combine PP from a capacitator and your own. So fill the thing up, and you might not have enough PP left to manifest that power you need right now (the only situation it would be of use is to use your 2 remaining points to put on top of the three still in the CC, and then manifest a 3rd-level power, or something along that line.)

But that isn't possible either. It is the whole 'bottleneck' problem where you can't manifest powers with points from two sources...

I see it as a cheat... So you use the points out of the capacitor for your powers because certain feats require that you maintain a certain level of points to use them... Then at the end of the day when a secure rest is guaranteed, you transfer the points over that you never intended on using form your personal store...

Then when the rest is over, you get a whole new set of points for yourself...

Another problem stems when you need a larger amount of points for something... Does it take a standard action or more to transfer? NO! You can do it a will... so when you need the big points the 'bottleneck' thing isn't a factor at all, you just transfer the points over and use them from the device....

If you do it the way I suggested then you can only fill the capacitor up when you get your points. This way if you want to use it you can, but you will be out the points needed for the fill for the day...

This stops the abuse that any unused points can be transfered at any time... It should at least take the amount of time it would take to meditate and get the points in the first place...

Make it a standard action to put points intp the capacitor, then.

#1: It isn't a cheat. This had been discussed at the WotC boards before. What's the use of having a crystal capacitor if you aren't going to use it? It's supposed to give you bonus power points; that's why it costs money to buy it.

At the beginning of the day, you should use your capacitors to use your "buffing" powers, which usually cost less than your combat powers.

#2: How often does a psion finish the day with power points left?

If you're lucky enough to have power points left, then you can recharge the capacitor.

Note that a spellcaster doesn't have to give up spell slots to "charge" a pearl of power.

I agree with the Severed Head. It's not a cheat, it's what capacitors are FOR. A crystal capacitor with any kind of large capacity is really expensive, and there's a reason for that - they're very useful.

I know he's right, I asked and I just don't like what I was told (I have to work on that)...

Anyway, I think in the end I will allow the transfer (one-way) at any point int he game, but it will require the same amount of time to as it normally would when you memorize/meditate for your powers...

And of course that is my perogative as DM.

Thanks for the help with the quesiton...

I know you can't use them from two sources. I don't intend to. I intend to put the PP into the CC (with a standard action or whatever) and use them from the one source - the CC.

<--wave my flag saying, "What (Psi)SeveredHead said!" around with excitement-->

It's not a cheat. I would make it a standard action to transfer one pp at a time.

The higher capacity CCs are very expensive, and that is why I would allow this to be done.
