(The Heighten Spell feat? Does anyone really have this on their sheet?)

YES! :D

And...
I think it's one of the best metamagic feats for Sorcerers, on par with Empower Spell.

I basically use it all the time. :)

There have been a few saves, that missed just because of the heightening, so I'm quite sure it has paid off.

But Heighten Spell is really good with the right spells.

Stuff like Glitterdust or Slow when heightened can easily compare with 5th or 6th level spells at the appropriate level. Also the enchantment school... Charm, Suggestion, Dominate. The DC is all that matters with those.

And it somewhat compensates the extremely low number of high level spells a Sorcerer has, since you can use the lower level spells as high level spells.

I've chosen Planar Binding as my first 6th level spell. Now I basically have no 6th level spell, when it comes to regular spellcasting. But I have Heighten Spell and Glitterdust, Suggestion, Dominate Person, etc. So I have very good and level appropriate uses for my 6th level slots.

Waaaay OT now, but: Why Planar Binding? Is it that good?

My Clr 14 (summoner) hasn't really had a chance to use Planar Ally yet. It just never seems like an appropriate use of treasure.

I think Heighten Spell should be a free metamagic feat for all character classes that cast spells, though it would be a "virtual feat" - an aspect of the spell system, rather than a feat in and of itself.
