Psionics Handbook 3.5 Confirmed!

Good news!
Hope they'll made some flavourful changes and not another weaker sorcerer-like with crystal familiar. I heard that WotC had made a poll, does anyone know what were the risults?
And that they explain a little what are psionics ("psionics in a campaign") because the old Psionics Handbook is incredibly empty of any bit of descriptive text.

Bye!

Well, I am glad - that is one book I don't have to even consider buying.

Yep. I own the first one and have used it about... twice. Once when I first bought it (hated it) and once when I ran Of Sound Mind (just to read the description of a psionic effect).

I can write off all my gaming purchases as a company expense, and I still won't be buying this one.

Honestly, the only thing I like about the psionic system is psychic warriors.

More, the only part I really like about psychic warriors are their access to psionic feats, like up the walls, speed of thought, etc.

Other than that, the system wasn't much more than a lame version of the normal magic system, with most psionic spells as straight conversions of sorc/wiz spells. Pretty flavorless.

I think psionics is neat but superfluous in your standard D&D campaign. It annoys me to see it used side-by-side with magic. Just pick a magic system - standard or psionics - and go with that.

What's that you say? Psionics has crappy healing? Guess you want the standard magic system then.

One of these days I'll probably try an all-psionics campaign, healing or no.

I hope they get rid of the Psychic Warrior and the whole psions love crystal thing.

And heres hoping they do a skill and feats system for psionics instead of the magic knockoff. I mean, it's alright, but it screams wizard instead of psionicist.

And call them Psionicists! None of this Psion crap :)

I find it surprising that people are actually BEGGING for more major changes. I think they changed too much in 3.5. The scope of some things that people are asking for here is much larger, which stands to create huge compatibility problems if they were actually to follow up on them. Not that I think they will, but just "be careful what you wish for."

Further, this is not the only reason to keep the changes limited. 1e/2e psionics suffered major problems precisely because it was so at odds with the rest of the system. The 3e version actually made one that worked well with the system. Scrapping it for some dubious new unplaytested version would be putting us back to square one, defeating the purpose of the 3.5 revisions and giving us all new reasons not to like it. Better to fix what is there.

So long as Bruce Cordell is on the project, I have faith that the results will be positive. Mindscapes was mostly good, and had most of the needed changes. If he does something similar for the PsiHB, I think we are in good hands.

Well if it's a straight conversion, that's still almost $40 USD. But maybe prices get jacked up more in canada for RPG stuff. I dunno.

Well if you do the math with today's exchange rates then you can figure out whether the price is fair or not. NOTE: While the Canadian dollar has gone up from 0.64 US$ to 0.74 US$, since the lower rate was rather steady the last few years, most non-Canadian publishers citing Canadian prices will use, and thus print on the back cover, the price calculated at the older rate of exchange--until such time the new rate stabilizes.

Sites like Amazon's, Walmart's, etc... often get the particular details of non-mainstream products wrong. At Amazon.ca, I saw there today that the 3 book bundle for 3.5 is credited to Monte Cook (all 3 books!) and no remarks about WotC... Wild, eh? :o ;)

Psion knows of what he speaks. Me? I'm just happy they are doing it. I wouldn't mind a handful more PrC's and a definitive Githyanki and Githzerai write up as PC race (we now have at least 3 Githyanki if you include the Incursion material in Dragon magazine).

Color me exited. This one I'm buying for sure.
