Psionics, Mind Blast at Level 1

This is looking better and better.

My only comment is I would have placed a higher score in ST. As an egotist that is where your bonus points are coming from and it is the ablitiy the Biofeedback uses.

Now that you have worked the character up I like it alot. Not my style but very balanced and usefull.

Thanx... and I think all of this is the Errata related to my character concept. The only major difference that affects it a lot is that Body Fuel is capped at 60 ability points/day. Limits it's usefullness, but only vaguely.

Errata:
p. 24, Body Fuel: Add as last sentence:
You can burn no more than 60 ability points in a day, regardless of any ability healing you may receive.
p. 30, Trigger Power, Benefit: Add as the very last line of this paragraph:
You cannot take 10 when using Trigger Power.
p. 40, Overview, 2nd paragraph after the table, 2nd sentence: Replace "The attacker adds the ability modifier to his
roll to set the defender's Will save DC against the attack." with this:
The attacker adds his key ability modifier to his roll to set the defender's Will save DC against the attack.
p. 40, Making a Psionic Attack, bottom of 2nd column, 2nd paragraph:
Replace "The attacker's ability modifier depends on the specific attack mode used." with this:
The attacker's ability modifier is always his key ability modifier, regardless of the specific attack mode used.
p. 42, Table 4Œ3, Tower of Iron Will Secondary Protection column: Replace "1 mental hardness*" with this: 2
mental hardness*
p. 42, Table 4Œ2, Psionic Attack Modes: Addƒƒ to Attack mode Heading. Also add footnote keyed to this heading:
ƒƒAttack mode level equivalents for the purpose of Concentration checks: Mind Thrust, 1st; Ego Whip and Id
Insinuation, 2nd; Psychic Crush, 3rd; Mind Blast, 5th.
p. 44, Tower of Iron Will, 2nd paragraph: Change "(if all are in a 10-foot-diameter area.)" to this: (if all are in a 10-
foot-radius area.)

amazing

I'm shocked no-one else has pointed this out:

you can only use your manifester level +1 power points to manifest a power.

No matter how many power points you have or where you get them from the most you can spend on manifesting powers at 1st level is TWO!

No psion with a manifester level of less than 8 can use a 9 point power....

Seriously. Psionics is weird but its not broken. At least not like this.

But Mind Blast isn't a power, it's a combat mode. IIRC that restriction doesn't apply to combat modes.

I don't know if this character concept is possible. First of all, body fuel gives you power points, but there no temporary, so would they go beyond your normal power point limit?

I think of it like crystal capacitors, the amount they give has to be at least the amount needed to cast the power, you can't use that with your own total to cast a power.

So if you don't have at least nine power points in your total, I don't think you can do it.

Also, does trigger power actually work for combat modes? It says 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level power, andI don't think mind blast qualifies for that.

Well, with the equivalent of a 49 point buy, This character still sucks.

Even at 3rd level you still have to burn ability points to get off one Mind Blast.

At third level your BAB is +1, with your Str 13, that makes it +2... ummm you aren't going to be hitting anything soon this week.

Combine that with your sucky AC, and every battle is going to be a desperate one for you. Sure you can try to shoot arrows, but without the Precise shot feat, your tank buddy will be cussing your sorry butt.

Once you have burnt off one Mind Blast, if you run into a psionic encounter, you are dead meat. You can't hit anything smaller than a barn door, and if you put up a psionic defense you are just digging yourself deeper into the statless wonder hole.

Must be fun spending the rest of the session playing a hero with Wisdom, Intelligence, and Dexterity scores of 1...

You have the self awareness of a comatose cat, the dexterity of a refrigerator, and the mental capacity of worm suffering from cerebral palsy...

Good Luck with your new character.

If you will be using the errata you should be prepared for a future version to change Mind Blast to 1d4 rounds of stun instead of 3d4.

Bruce Cordell has mentioned (over on Monte Cook's boards) that the change should have gone in on the first round of errata, but was accidentally left off.

IMHO 1d4 is MUCH more reasonable than 3d4 and it's a good change...

Re: amazing

I'm shocked as well, I was waiting till I read all the current messages before pointing this out.

Re: Re: amazing

Combat and defense modes are just special purpose powers and I impose the power point expenditure limit to them.

They are not powers. They are even listed in the same chapters and are given different rules on how they work. There is no limit on how much power you can use per attack and defence modes.

Defence modes don't even take an action to use.
