Psionics?

I suggest you rename the class, think of all the abilities as ki energy, and suddenly blam, you've got a monk who is a master of his mind as well as his body.

I suggest you do what feels right for you and your group and don't worry about what people who have hangups with the term "psionics" happen to think. (Not that my view of psionics is THAT far off from Kamard's, I'm just saying...)

Psion, I think all Kanard was doing was pointing out ways to get around the original poster's claim that he didn't think psionics fit in with standard D&D. :)

My experience is that psywarriors fit just fine. Mental psions (telepaths, seers, metacreatives) fit all right to the wizard and sorcerer (better with If Thoughts Could Kill rule fixes), while the physical psions (nomads, savants, egoists) are weak.

I don't think you should have much difficulty fitting a psionic warrior into a standard-ish campaign.

Well in that case, carry on!

If your player is a fan of psionics, I suggest you go to Monte Cook's site and check out the ads for the fabulous psionic adventure "If Thougths Could Kill" by Bruce "The Psionics Guy" Cordell. It's a 5 dollar pdf. download but it includes some new material and fixes that are invaluable if you use psionics in your campaign....

Even with the Psionic Feats?

well, yes. the psywar has so little pp's that he can scarcely use all his powers (which come from a small list, in my opinion) in a day. multying fighter with sorc gives you more magic potential by far plus bigger HD. Sure the psionic feats are cool, but you also have to get some fighting feats too, right? And then...have you seen what happens if a psywar is psiattacked by a full psionic? he's toast...having a non-psion char here is far better.

I have now played a Psion (Nomad) up to 3rd level, and I must say it is quite fun. Fortunately, I wound up with a 20 DEX (Elf), so I have had a very fun time. I focused my powers into Movement (with the Burst talent and the Skate Power), and my bow (longbow, conjoined with a 20 Dex and two lesser metphysical weapon spells on bow and arrows specifically). This combo works well, because in a pinch I can, with no armor whatsoever have a 19 AC, move at a 55 speed and fire a +1 Bow and +1 Arrow, which deals as much damage as any non-fighter in the party, with no danger to myself. Also, the ability to enhance any weapon in the party up to 6 times per day, for 2-3 hours at a time, is quite useful. I am the equal of any archer or mage in the party, and now that with 3rd level I have 10 power points, I can mind blast a whole group of non-psionic creatures and have a good chance of knocking the crap out of them for an average of 7 rounds (stunning effect). Very nice to use in a large fight, even if I almost drain myself doing so.

However, I do highly recommend the rules from Bruce Cordell's If Thoughts Could Kill. They beef up a psion ever so slightly, and make him a little more versatile outside of the one-trick pony of skating and shooting.

That's right. And it's Kamard. :D

See, in my home game, I use psionics as mental energy. Wait, thats psionics. But I can see other people wanting a psionic class and not wanting to call it psionics. So I offered an idea for him.

My thoughts have been that that psi warriors were more versatile in combat that straight fighters, but less effective (unless buffed up with the right powers for the job). I wonder what a Fighter-Psionic Warrior would look like?

They're fun to play, though. Never at a loss for a weapon, always jumping around the place... cool stuff.

Psi-warriors have more hit points than a fighter-sorcerer, by the way (d8+d8 = 9 vs. d10+d4 = 8).
