Psychic Reformation Psionic Item

First Post
I was looking over the pricing guidelines for magic items while trying to determine the market price of a psionic item that would let the user manifest psychic reformation 1/day when it quickly became a mess due to the variable XP cost of that power. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to price such an item? Should I use the minimum XP cost for the manifester (half of 50, or 25XP) and let the usual cost for the subject apply (25XP/level deep the changes go)? Should I just make it some arbitrary amount, given the usefulness of such an item? If so, how much?

Thanks in advance!

As a possible house rule solution.... I made an item to duplicate psychic reformation in a campaign that I ran. I simply made an exception, and had the user and the target pay the XP cost at the time that it was used.

Similarly, I made a wondrous architecture item (that's a magic item that is a room, from the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook) that performed a fabricate on stuff that was left inside the room, which required you to supply the material components at the time of use.

Actually, having the user pay the XP cost upon activation is probably the best way to do it, yeah. It fits in with the psionic nature of the item very well.

Agree with this. It's unlimited usage (1/day, but that's 365 uses in a year... or a minimum of 18250 xp...), so the cost should be at time of use.

Wow, this could be a very abuseable item. Very abuseable.

I would put this item way up in the pricing guidelines, as in many ways it is a wish, though more limited, of course. I might agree with about 100,000 gold, but would give it a few charges, like about 7.

Okay, say we knock it down to 1/month, command-word activated, no item slot, and make the XP cost payable by the user (25 XP/level back the modification goes). Factor in the minimum XP cost it would cost any manifester, 25 XP, and I come up with (7*4*1800*2)/(5/[1/30]), or 6315 GP. This still seems a bit good, so let's more than double it again to a nice round 13000gp. Does this sound like a fair amount, considering XP costs still have to be paid?
