D&D 5E Publishing 5e adventure modules / settings

Dragonsbane

Proud Grognard
I see on websites like drivethrurpg and the others tons of stuff for 5e. I was under the impression that this wasn't possible yet. I am almost done with a campaign setting that I considered including as a PDF for modules I would put up for sale. The setting book would come with all the modules in the future, be updated with new regions and stuff constantly, etc. My issue is that I have a number of subraces for humans and elves, and would hate to go to all the trouble to do this to get a letter a month later telling me to stop because something from the PHB was in there. I mean, could the term "advantage/disadvantage" be copyrighted? How about the names of ability scores. Seems hard to determine.

Any updates on this lately?

You need to know what you're doing, but it's very possible. Your best bet is to make sure you get legal advice to make sure you don't make any mistakes (that's what I, and Necromancer Games, and Goodman Games, and Sasquatch Studios did).

Don't rely on a forum thread for legal advice. It can be done, it's not too hard, but make sure you know what you're doing.

If you don't have a decent grasp on IP law, pay someone who does. Similarly, with contract law, because the OGL is a license - an agreement.

A good start is to read and understand the OGL. That will make your job much easier. It's pretty short and clear - nothing in it to trip you up or anything. You'll notice it doesn't mention any game editions.
