Pure speculation-multiclassing and magic

I only read a bit, so I'm sorry if the idea has already been thrown out there.
What if spellcasting works like in the Bo9S? Your level plus half of your levels in any other classes creates your level for spells. It seems like it would make fighter/mages viable, and straight mages would still be more powerful than the "gish". I don't see anything wrong with this, either. I'm sure there's going to be a big difference between a level 30 spell and a level 25 spell.

I've thought something like this might be a good solution in 3.5. This sounds very right, actually. The only question I have is what happens with the Arcane/divine split? Is a caster level a caster level no matter the source?
Yes, in a model like this, caster level is caster level. Even IF there is a divine/arcane split (which I hope personally, that they do away with) your "aptitude" would be based more on the talents you received from your class level than anything to do with caster level. We shall see which way they go. I'm interested to see.

The Arcane/Divine split is definitely not going away. In fact, I'd bet it'll become more like an Arcane/Divine/Martial split, if spells become sufficiently similar to maneuvers. It probably won't come to that, of course, but if anything, the difference between divine and arcane magic will become more apparent, not less.
